I was hoping that we would sign a reasonable young left back like Chicksen but better so that in the event of an injury again or Bong breaking down he could play. As CH says you need 2 for every position.

And we may well do. The windows not even open,we're looking at rumours and you're talking like it's all doom and gloom and we're not looking at the right type of playera

remains to be seen

Yes it does. But you can't say with the certainty you seem.to be employing until the window closes unless you know something that most of us don't. Maybe Hughton has said to you I'm a private chat that he can't be bothered to bring in someone for.the long term at left back and would rather.just sign a dependable stop gap

A Ridgewell loan would suit very nicely, he would cover the period of time that we're missing Bong for and then he'd go back so Bong can step back in again. Financially, that makes sense as well - we have to remember that we're paying for all of the injured players just the same, so the more we bring in the more we're spending and the closer we'd be to doing a Bournemouth, risking the fine for the benefit of promotion.

Anyone know if we have insurance for injured players?

I find it hard to believe that such insurance exists. Injuries in a 25 man squad are inevitable; there's no way that an insurance company is going to provide cover, or if they did, the premiums would be immense.

I would think there's insurance.for career ending injuries but not to cover players wages when injured

I think there is insurance actually, to be fair to GingerBeerMan - that would offset the wages we are paying out, but I don't think it would cover the full amount so my general point remains. Maybe El Presidente has more of an idea about this subject?

Liam Ridgewell would be an excellent loan signing to cover for six- eight weeks until Bong is fully recovered. Is a left footed defender who can play centre back and left back. Has Premiership experience and is only 31 years old. Importantly has played under Hughton before so it sounds like a decent chance it will come off. Just what we need.

Have I missed something?
Warren Aspinall saying on Player that there are only the i's to dot and the t's to cross on a left back signing

Aspinall? I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere: I just can't figure out what it is

Ridgewell's more of a centreback then an out and out left back, but that may be what we needed given Greers injury, someone who can fill in and cover both until we get over this injury crisis.

I think that the 'cover both' situation is one we could do without given the unfortunate case of Rosenior covering for Bong. The timescale of a return to match fitness for both remains uncertain.

Accordingly I hope that TB and board will look for a specialist left back - what were the club thinking when they signed Chicksen (amongst the many others who offerred absolutely zilch)

It looks like our major problem will be overcome very soon, signing a left back all we have to do then is get back our attacking flair from early season and we will be up and running again.

Not that simple I'm afraid BG. Another major problem is VLP leaving next week - he must be replaced or permanently signed asap. If Wilson is recalled we'll be doubly hit - especially if Hemed or BZ pick up an injury. Another Dunk sending off with Greer's continued absence could be very problematic in the centre of defence too. Lot's to solve in January, not just a LB.
