Hogging a machine, even during very long rest breaks. Used to go to Corals Gym years ago, where a group always hogged the Smiths Machine each evening, no one else got a look in.

I'm a Corals squash member, but occassional pop in the gym to strengthen my knees. I do find gyms in general an odd atmosphere, like everyone is trying to keep themselves to themselves, but actually everyone is clocking exactly what everyone else is doing. Looking a bit old all their stuff now.

This is why, when I'm away for work, I would rather go out road running, even if it is cold and wet or the route is crap, than use a hotel gym. I'm a runner and not really in to weights and I don't think it's good form to hog the treadmill for 40-60 minutes, which, when training for a big race are my shortest runs.

It also drives me mad when people spend over twenty minutes on the treadmill and just WALK. Go to the shops on foot and carry back some heavy shopping, you'd literally burn more calories and be less annoying.

I think I'm quite lucky, the gym I use doesn't seem to have any annoyances for me (though I have my headphones in so don't hear anything). Unless you include the annoyance that they're almost all in better shape than me...

I went to gyms for a long time, long before they became fashionable from 1986 onwards, when there were only about 3 gyms in the whole of Brighton and Hove. I was never into big weights or bulking up. It fizzled out once we had kids, I was keen to see to see them after work, rather than getting home much later. Mates thought nothing of staying in the gym from 5 til 7 most weekdays, weight training, cardio work and socialising at the same time.

Since then staying fit by other means.

Sounds like you have a very low irritation threshold!!

People who get off of a bike or rowing machine leaving it a sweaty mess!

Fat women, in pairs, who sit on exercise bikes chatting, pedalling so slowly that you can see the machine seizing up. Then getting of approx 7 minutes later with a huff and a puff before shuffling their fat arses back back into the changing room.

Blokes leaving towels on equipment to claim it, whilst walking off to do something else.

Excessive grunting (as per OP). There is no need to for it. Feck off you tool.

Attractive women perving at my hot body.

terrible radio stations playing intrusively loudly.

all annoy me.

Before going in to work and announcing to the WHOLE PLACE that they've "been to the gym this morning" before having two bowls of cereal, three packets of crisps and a Diet Coke for breakfast. And then spending the day BUSTLING.

Shouldn't this be a thread called "Bell cheeses at the gym" ?

I may just have tried to send it in that direction even more.........

That excessively loud throat clearing/ gobbing thing some blokes do in the showers
Sitting on benches between sets so no-one else can work in (whilst usually pissing about on a phone as already stated)
People - and it's usually women - on adjacent treadmills, walking slowly and chatting (especially if there are ONLY TWO TREADMILLS). Just go out for a walk FFS
People not wiping down kit after use
Blokes who have to continually let out very loud exhales ages long after their session has finished in a 'Oooh look at how KNACKERED I AM' manner
Protein-shaking :tosser:s
People who can't be arsed to put their wet towels in the towel bin but leave them scattered all over the changing rooms
People who seem to think it's OK to get more than one day's use out of their kit (presumably leaving it in a damp bag between sessions):sick:
