Perhaps someone with a bit more technical knowledge can explain why we couldn't bat in this way first up?

Apparently this pitch is in the best condition on day 3 with little use on day 1 according to the experts.

Now that England have survived 20 overs, the ball has gone softer.

I still cant understand how England were dismissed for 67 1st innings. Value your wicket and leave any dangerous balls.

In other news, Sussex won away at Middlesex. Chased down 170 with 4 overs left. Top 4 batsmen all in the runs.

Now 3 down, shame Denly couldn't make it until Stumps, even more of a shame we were so shithouse in the First Innings not to make 150 or so which would have made this run chase a bit more realistic.

You feel these two will have to put on the bulk of the runs, easily our best two batsman.

Got to get past the first half hour then the new ball. Really need a good first session 70/1 would keep us well in the hunt.

203 more to win.

Which won't happen, but if we get to 300 or so then it shows some intent, unlike the first innings.

Assuming Anderson is fit for the 4th Test then Roy has to go as an opener, seeing as Denly opens for Kent then have him & Burns 1 & 2 , take Bairstow's gloves off him and make him 3, Root back to 4, Stokes 5, Roy drops down to 6, Foakes (wk) 7, Archer 8, Broad 9, Leach 10, Anderson 11.

If Anderson not fit then Curran comes in at 8 ahead of Archer.

Sorry BG, no place for Banger!

I’d rather have Buttler at 6 then Roy at present. That or bring in the young Surrey lad Pope I think who scored a championship double hundred this week.

Roy won’t score runs in English conditions against this bowling attack unless he comes in with at least 200 on the board. This doesn’t happen enough to warrant a place.
