Just for a change Joe Cocker didn’t make the best cover version, as he did with quite a few other songs. I think somebody else tried again quite recently but it was a pale imitation. Cannot remember who it was though.
I was surprised to see that the Boxtops recorded for STAX though, not what I am used to hearing from songs on that label.

Mmmmmm.....I love both versions, the original for the singing and guitar break in the fade out, and the cover for the molten guitar work in the late middle. I'd call this a draw.
Also, my CF version of the Idiot is AAD and the volume and quality are poor - I wonder if it has been remastered and re-released?

For me, this is better than all the covers. May be just me. So unusual in the 60s to hear someone singing in an English accent.
