I like that people are assessing what he meant on the NHS.

Watch the clip back. He has LITERALLY no idea what is being asked in the question.

He basically went "yeah, sure, chuck that in as well".

The guy is making it up as he goes along. My brain STILL can't fathom how this has actually happened. :lolol:

He's not the only one making reference to the NHS, so we're not taking his interview out of context.
You're right in saying he hasn't got a clue what he's doing. He has some powerful men pulling his strings.

Going back to personal experience my cousin lives in the USA. Her daughter died of liver cancer three years ago, because her insurance found an exclusion clause not to fund treatment. She was in her early 40s.

So we pay a bit more to keep our NHS then.

Totally agree. I'm doubtful he even knows NOW what the NHS is. A lot of words come out of his mouth, but he doesn't actually SAY a lot. Ever.

If taxes were fair then funding the NHS wouldn't be an issue. And before someone starts going on about high earners already paying more than their fair share, I know. It's not about people who earn £150k a year on PAYE, they already get screwed.

It's about the big fish who avoid MILLIONS in tax. It's a global problem and probably the biggest one apart from climate change.

But those in positions of power will keep everyone worrying about immigration, "sovereignty" and the colour of their passport instead.

"We need to pay a bit more" is the opposite of "let's end up like America".

Obviously like most posters here, I hope that we never end up with a US version of healthcare. It abandons the poor to suffer in ill health and leaves them with shorter life expectancy.

If anyone thinks we’re half way there already, that’s rubbish. I’ve had cause to use the NHS in the last 6 months for an op to remove a huge tumour and separately I was rushed by ambulance as an emergency. Both times, largely fantastic NHS staff, great care and literally life savers. In the USA, the first thing they ask is about your private insurance cover, care comes next.

But the NHS could do with more cash e.g. the hospital in Harrow had 1970’s aluminium windows, with old tissue squeezed in the gaps to stop rattling. A&E at the Royal Sussex was overloaded, with people like myself lying on trollies in packed corridors, once prognoses aren’t acute.

To fund this, either;
1. We all pay a few percent extra in basic rate income tax. That would raise substantial sums, or;
2. [MENTION=409]Herr Tubthumper[/MENTION] explained the German system very well, of mandatory private insurance.

In the meantime, Trump needs to butt out.

Just to clarify. Health insurance is mandatory but for many it is a government run scheme. You pay for it out of your salary and your employer pays some. It’s similar to NI. BUT, the amount we pay far outstrips what is put into the NHS by a long long way. And this is the crux. But we get the benefits of this. Hospitals, doctors and especially dentists are everywhere. Wait times are minimal and everyone I know is able to pick and choose when to have treatment. You get what you pay for. The NHS is clearly chronically underfunded and no manner of restructuring will bring it up to the level I experience here. In the main, you/someone, needs to pay more. It really is this simple.

The good thing about this health insurance payment is it’s ring fenced and transparent. You see how much goes into your healthcare each and every month.
