People liberally throwing the word nonce and paedo about on here need to look up the definition of that word. As Martin Samuel pointed out on Sunday supplement this morning, a Paedophile is a person attracted to pre-pubescent children, not a 15 year old who could pass for a few years older.

This is non condoning what he did, he is a sex offender and any club would be mad to give him a chance. He deserved his time in the slammer but let'e be a bit careful with the language being banded around FFS.

Just trying to add a bit of intelligence to the debate but we obviously live in a world now where it everything HAS to be extreme. Someone who uses the word coloured instead of black is a racist, someone who voted Brexit is a nazi, someone who says ladies football instead of women's is a disgusting misogynist.

Martin Samuel 'writes' for a nasty little rag, so we can discount his opinion.

The Sexual Offences Act 2003 does not define paedophilia as such. But it does define victims in the age bracket 13 to 15, as being children.

I have already said that Johnson is a sex offender who groomed a child and deserved to be locked up. That is never in doubt. I was just pointing out what a paedo means but reasoned debate on this topic seems impossible so I will shut up.

Good points with all that, anyone and everyone is one slip of the tongue away from being condemned forever.

But Johnson is on another level, a convicted child offender.

Yes, I know he is a convicted child offender, I was just pointing out about the word paedo.

Totally different as a teacher will be dealing with a children of some age but he would never need to have contact with children.

I wouldn't want him to be signed by us but if a club is prepared to sign him and accept the s..t they would get so be it.

It's not totally different at all, Johnson used his fame as a footballer to meet this girl and then groom her. In the same way a teacher wouldn't be allowed to teach again then Johnson shouldn't be automatically allowed to play football again given his previous abuse of the position. The argument he wouldn't be around children falls down when you consider the age most children join a professional club in some way, not to mention exposure to mascots, fans etc. It would be a nightmare for a club to manage not to mention the flack they would get. How many players with kids of their own would want him as a team mate?

His career is over in this country and seeing as he's on licence for 3 years it's very unlikely he would be allowed to take up an offer overseas if any club wanted to sign him. He'd be 34 approaching 35 by the time he's off licence and wouldn't have played football since Feb 2016, I doubt there will be anyone willing to take the kind of shit that would come with signing him for what he could offer then.

****ing vile, using the death of a former team mate for publicity and a photo op is sickening.

This. Trying to revive his career and seek the help of KP too. Keep your head down mate, keep out the media and keep out of football. I really hope there is no truth in this article.

The difference between Adam Johnson and plenty of footballers, and other rich celebs, is that he got caught.

... because there's no chance that he genuinely wanted to visit the grave? He's been in prison for 3 years, maybe he was a regular visitor to the grave before his imprisonment and was returning for his own personal reasons? Obviously, there's a chance that it was as cynical as it seems but you see what you want to see.

If we take the article on face value, he arranged for photos to be taken of him visiting the grave. Sure, he's been locked up for three years and may have regularly visited the grave before, but the act of arranging to be photographed there is the issue. Not that he visited the grave.

If there is a 'well, let's not jump to conclusions...' argument to be put forward, it shouldn't be justifying him visiting the grave, it should be questioning whether he arranged for the photos as the article says, or if perhaps the journalist (or whomever might be pushing an agenda) has taken advantage of an increase in paparazzi interest in Johnson since his release and that he is being blamed for them following him of their own accord while visiting the grave of a friend.

In reality, everybody plays their own angle. I'm sure the paparazzi are following him around all the time there's an interest in his movements. And I'm sure that he and his people will recommend using that fact to their own advantage. It seems to me to be a game being played by both sides.

What I don't know is why people care.

Most of us don't live to those extremes though do we? If you ignore tabloid journalism and the gutter social media, then I doubt you'll really experience anyone who does live to those extremes at all.

Not at all sure that I'd want to see him at The Albion, but I do agree with the two posts quoted - he committed a crime and was rightly sent to prison for an appropriate time - that is, a length of sentence appropriate to the gravity of his crime, which was at the low end of the sex crime spectrum.

In spite of what has been said on one or two posts on here, we have no idea whether he has felt remorse for his crime, whether he has realised and recognised how wrong it was, how much of a reformed character he is. We have no idea how much his conviction and spell in prison have changed him. I think he will get taken on by a club, probably, as has been said, at a lower level - and he will face considerable abuse - but I think it is right that having done his time he should have the chance to resume his career.

I agree. Not only has he served his sentence (although presumably he's still out on licence) and although he's clearly behaved n a particularlry stupid and unpleasant way I too feel that he was made an example of, simply because he was a well known international footballer as well as being a first class idiot. That doesn't alter the fact that he's paid very heavily for his crime .

In Aylesbury a couple of years back, about the time that Johnson got sentenced, another publican got arrested for having 20,000 child porn images on his home computer with more hidden in his car away from his family. What did he get? - 18 months suspended sentence. Look at the daft sentences handed out to louts wuth knives?

If he can find a club brave enough to take him on then he should have a fresh start. With safeguards, as already meniontioned, natch.

Sorry, who is both sides? Johnson ensuring he gets photographed visiting a dead friend's grave, and the other side is the paparazzi/tabloid media? That really is a shit game if those are the sides.

Of course its cynical attempt to "improve his image". If he wanted to just visit the grave, he could have done so without bleating about it to the press. Nobody would have needed to know.

He used his position as a footballer to groom and abuse a child. He should be ostracised not just by the football community but by society as a whole. Paedophiles can't be "cured". Would you bet on him never doing it again?
