When the cordon moved up from the away end and turned left numerous fans left it by going straight on, I did not see any challenged or stopped leaving the escort however it may have been just at the time I was there.
Quite. There’s only so much shoving between the shoulder blades one is going to stand for until you turn round and say something which the police in these situations take as a green light to take you to the ground.
I rate the police highly in some situations. They’ve seriously let themselves down here.
I feel for this chap and his Dad, what should have been a celebratory time will now he remembered for something quite different.
I hope he recovers quickly and can put this behind him. Poor bloody bloke.
This. Did it to me with my son in the early noughties. Avoidable tiresomeness is one thing. Unavoidable shit forced on me . . .We ended up lost, a long way from the car, while Croydonian spotty youth and fat older blokes with no hair ran up and down the streets in an alarming manner. That was the last time I went. I vowed to never go back. Nothing to do with the so called rivalry, just on the basis of my away day experiences. The club is shit, the police they liaise with are shit, and the sooner they are relegated into oblivion the better.

Obviously we don't know the full story from that video, but it certainly looks bad behaviour by the police -there was ni immediate threat that warranted five or six officers piling in to take a man down.
If the magistrates don't throw the case out, and they fine him, should be a bucket collection at the next home match to pay the fine (any surplus to the REMF).
And if he is an STH, and the club have cancelled his season ticket, they would seem to have over-reacted. Some sort of orderly protest to PB surely justified?

Not wishing to condone or condemn anyone but your opening words really sum it up. Who knows what went on before and the reasons for the police reaction. A snapshot of an incident without an explanation. Bearing in mind the nature of this fixture, both home and away, “robust” policing goes with territory, and unfortunately for us peaceful and law abiding fans we have to accept it.

Selhurst Park is one away ground that I’ll never go back to. I hate the dump. Despite having been there numerous times I just don’t enjoy Albion v Palace games anymore - it’s all I can do to suffer our fixture at the Amex. The 2-0 defeat in the playoffs did it for me. Your post perfectly describe my feelings and I sincerely hope your wish in the final sentence comes true.

True. Even so, if the magistrate's see the video (and the defence should certainly use it) the police will have quite a job to justify the apparently excessive show of force, five or six riot police piling into one man when there wasn't actually a riot, and no evidence of a threat to security.

Was the gentleman in question charged with an offence, and for what? I would imagine that the police would have their own video evidence to justify their actions which might throw more light on the proceedings.
