Funny old ride this morning. Wind was in my face most of the ride so I was down a few cogs to keep the cadence up. Really mucks up your speed though. Interesting looking at the analysis but comforting I guess to see relatively constant figures..

Today was quite a difference to the past few weeks where we've been spoilt weather wise. I prefer cold to heat but quite glad I broke out the long sleeve jersey and leg warmers today.

Days like today make you appreciate riding in a group on the head wind bits :)

23 VS 25...with difference.

I know that 25s are meant to be quicker than 23s, but I'm wondering if running 25s instead of 23s will save me having to get my wheel trued every 3 months. Too many speed humps and post earthquake roads seems to be taking its toll on my 100psi 23s. I'm thinking that running 25s at about 80 will mean I run quicker and don't warp my back wheel so quick. Opinions please, especially from anyone that's made the switch.

Oh, and when I say getting it trued it's probably only 1 mm out, but I run with my brake blocks close so I don't have to pull so far to brake.

This article seems to come to the same conclusions, only you're not going far enough.

25's felt better for me when I made the change, but I didn't drop the pressure.

We were talking about this yesterday, myself and Colin weren't convinced about riding clinchers with such a low psi.
Whereas for tubeless Colin was saying 80 was now about his max.

My 23mm Vredestein tri comps were getting old and needed changing. My first move to 25mm was to eventually opt for Michelin pro 4 endurance V2's.

I put them on only to find much to my surprise that frame clearance is so tight at the back that the rear wouldn't even turn, let alone spin  I since read that they come up big and 25's are almost like having a 28. The front though is an absolute dream to ride! Very smooth and feels really grippy and pretty quick. I went to 110psi (max is 115) but I'm used to running 130 in the Vredesteins.

I now intend to buy another pro 4 in a 23mm and hope it fits the rear ok. If it fits then I think I'm going to be very happy running those tyres and another set will then go on the new Winter build, when it's done.

I'm now an instant convert to 25mm having taken a long time to make the switch over.

On Sunday I descended this, riding racing slick 25's, pumped to 100 psi:-

Bedham Lane, maybe banjo knows it.
A mile long, 1 1/2 cars width, wet but not puddles, completely covered in wet leaves and sticks, less than 200 yards of straight between each blind bend.

I could have walked down it faster.

Ah. Horsebridge Hill. Only ever climbed it and taken the descent into Fittleworth. I can imagine the descent being interesting in those conditions [emoji6]...

One mans interesting is another man shite scared.
In fairness though it wasn't that bad because I just didn't let the bike go even for a couple of seconds.
I hate the descent at the best of times, so I have no problem in tip-toeing down it.

This is my only concern on moving up to 25s. There's not a lot of clearance around the rear on the Scott. I may pop into my local bike mechanic and see if he's got any old 25s hanging around that I can try and see if they fit. He may even have a wheel with a 25 on that I can drop in and see if it fits.

This is exactly where I am. The issue with being trapped with only 23 tyres is the reduced wheel choices. I think I'll need a new bike soon.

That moment when:-

You've slogged into a headwind for 90+ minutes.
Then turned for home.
Barrelling along fast, but...

...have forgotten about a right turn coming up that'll take you back into the wind.

Soul crushing!

Anyhoo today Phil mentioned this 'artist' working out of Chichester:-

I can't think of many things less worthy of throwing money at than having an 'artist' design the inside of my front fork

Plenty of Mamils with more money than sense about though so there's bound to be takers.
