You have my condolences.

Nowt wrong with an eclectic taste in music, in fact it’s a great thing. John Denver made some very good records..imo, but I am not much of a fan.

From my many posts on this thread you may have gathered that I am a massive country fan, not old school country but mostly country rock, bloodly love it

Anyway where’s Frutos, I know he loves country, maybe more than me

I like far too many to pick just one favourite. It changes daily, hourly even. A couple of months ago I discovered Totally Country was on sky, showing more up-to-date country muic and american videos than the other channel, keep it country does (which instead shows a lot of irish country music and obscure versions of videos - here's shania twain that don't impress me much... from her live performance dvd). Totally country has exposed me to some more newer artists, artists I was aware of but only knew one or tow of their songs now getting see more of them (Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osbourne, Cam, Kacey Musgraves, Zac Brown, Florida Georgie Line, Darius Rucker, Sugarland, etc), so I've been listening to a lot of those.

This one, by Paul Cauthen closed out the first epsiode of season 2 of American Gods

Besides that I do like those with a bit of humour

And this all star team up covering a Gentleman Jim song:

On a warm summer's eve
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us,
And he began to speak
He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind me sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"
So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his faced lost all expression
He said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die
in your sleep

Nice

Campbell, and this song... awesome!

I picked up a flyer yesterday regarding the Rye Jazz Festival. "An audience with Jimmy Webb" (writer of this and a good many classics songs) is one of many interesting looking shows on offer.

Interesting thread - I notice that the Osbourne Brothers are featured on one post - "It ain't my fault" is a regular on Planet Rock!

....I offer you this, a song with an interesting back story that is very personal to the writer and singer. Is it Country? Perhaps it is better to stick to "is it good and do I like it"1
