Quote Pastafarian
Really cant see how taking back control of legislative powers ceded to Brussels, ensuring our courts have primacy in domestic matters rather than the primacy of the ECJ or taking back control of border control and thankfully being allowed to require EU citizens who want to live and work here to get permissions to enter prior to crossing the border, such as we do require with non EU citizens is dispiriting or impoverishing. Its normal practice for the majority of the countries on the planet who are not in the EU as they exercise their sovereign rights.
What financial price are you putting on sovereignty?[/QUOTE]

The sovereigntist argument for Brexit is a perfectly legitimate case to make.
But others have chosen to pool their sovereignty in ways and to extents because they believe pooling enhances their sovereignty - in the sense of adding to their 'power of agency' in a world order in which modestly sized nation states have relatively little say - rather than diminishing it.
Ironically by regaining our sovereignty in this way, we will ultimately be ceding overall sovereignty because we will become a 3rd 'modestly sized' nation....

No,saving democracy saves the country, the Tory leadership recognises there was a referendum vote that gave the instruction to Leave, ignoring the decision to Leave and politicians scheming or succeeding in the UK remaining instead will be catastrophic for democracy and parliamentary accountability for the country. It matters not if the Tories oversee such an outcome (they will be finished) it is the democratic process that is paramount and will be damaged beyond saving despite who is in control.
It is worrying people like you cant see this, which you obviously cannot.
It is equally worrying that you cannot concede that the democratic process was so badly distorted by misinformation and lack of information as well as malpractice as to be a mockery of democracy.

...because Geoffrey Boycott knows more than Mark Carney?

Boycott has a positive brain, Carney is an accountant worrying about costs all the time, it's all about mindset.

Carney is a doom monger.

Come on Lever start believing in Britain and all our qualities and work ethics.

Or alternatively, Boycott is an ignorant wife-beating racist thug and Carney is a gifted and talented economist without whose leadership over the last few years we would be in a sight worse state than we are now.

It really is a sad state of affairs when the political opinions of a drunk ex sportsman are taken seriously. That’s the current climate though is t it. If they agree with me, they must be right. Insane.

GEOFFREY BOYCOTT was found guilty of assault for a second time yesterday when a French judge decided that the former England opening batsman had made a brutal attack on his girlfriend in an Antibes hotel two years ago. He was fined pounds 5,300 and given a three months suspended jail sentence

Seems our Leavers like blokes that get a bit lively with their girlfriends.

Yep, pretty much. Wasnt bothered. Knew full well, prior to it happening, that an extension to the negotiations to Leave was a possibility. Always known that the Tories know if they fail to deliver leaving the EU according to the democratic vote they cease to be a political party.Adhering to the democratic vote of the people is paramount, it supersedes everything, if the Tories renege on the promise to respect the outcome of the vote then f### them and f### any other politician from any party that aids that process.
Dont drink tea though.

Yes, you have put this view forcibly many times and your belief that the result of a referendum overrules all other considerations is well known, not least since you reacted to the hypothesis of a referendum about appeasement in the late-1930s by seeming to say that its outcome would have had to have been respected irrespective of the effect on the country in the 1940s. Your position is clear.

Some might also say that a scenario whereby apparently respectable leaders deploy the democratic process to use lies and innuendoes to flog the impossible mirage of a have-our-cake-and-eat-it Brexit to an unsuspecting public also brings the the notion of democracy into disrepute.

"If there is one message in that referendum of 2016, it is that too many people feel left behind, that they are not able to take part fully in the opportunities and successes of our country."

Over three years old now and it hasn’t worked. Because it’s unworkable and Leavers couldn’t decide between themselves which shat deal to go for.

Scrap it. The madness needs to end now. You had a chance. You blew it. Enough now. It’s beyond silly now.

What a strange response. Somebody pointed out Boycott is pro Brexit. I merely pointed out he’s also pro women beating so perhaps his is not the best example to follow. Played by the media. Pffft. Still stands . Three years and we don’t even have an exit deal. Still stands. Tell me another while I’m in the mood!

That post will be conveniently ignored.

Leavers are very naive if they think fascism couldn’t happen in England. Or that we couldn’t find ourselves at war with a European country again. Leave voters have got soft bellied and complacent. They have no idea the level of comfort belonging to the EU has afforded them.

I see

Brexit = Belief in Britain
Scepticism + informed counter-argument = enemy of the country/people

You really do live in a simplistic world....

The hotel california comparison butters no parsnips either. We can check out anytime we like. Would have gone by now if it wasn't for Leave's self sabotage.

But we were not in the Hotel Californiaesque EU clusterfvck during WWII.

Wow. Even for you this is a pretty terrible take.

For a start, you could never leave Hotel California. The UK can leave the EU whenever it likes, the issue is doing it without massive internal disruption and violating international treaty obligations (the Good Friday Agreement). If the UK wanted to become a rogue state on the world stage with no food or money it could leave tomorrow.
