Tim Paine "That's ok, I would have batted anyway"

UTTER BOLLOX :lolol:

What really happened was "Hold on" presses finger to ear, "whispers sorry Steve can't hear you I'm in an interview" scratches ear pretending there is nothing in it, "sorry, what was the question, oh I would have batted obviously". Camera pans to Smith on balcony with palm on face

Perfect bowling conditions. England clearly feeling the Aussie line up is vulnerable. Haven't seen the wicket. Is there a green covering ? If not England need to get this right if the clouds go early.

Australians have to be up there with politicians as the best spin doctors going, Shane warne ‘well If you don’t bowl well first up you can be out the game completely, whereas if you bat badly you’re still in the game no matter what really’

No green covering really, looks similar to the Edgbaston pitch fairly dry and looks a good batting surface, what happened to groundsmen producing wickets to give home advantage eh?

The moneymen nobbled them. 3-day Test matches cost a lot of money in refunds!

Paine claims to have wanted to bat.... alright fella.

Aussies probably would have batted. They tend to unless there is good reason not to. At Lords they felt bowling first was the best idea in what was to be a shortened match. They had the confidence England had here.

Michael Vaughan said he'd have batted too. It looks like a good pitch, Root has put his faith in the weather rather than the pitch

Not sure that there is any home advantage except the usual swinging conditions with the Duke. Both teams have matching disciplines. What suits us suits them.

The ECB don't instruct on wickets. They shouldn't. That said, away series wins seem less common these days.

Raining again

It's grim up north.

Once again it's time to dust off a favourite story of my yoof.

The late pa Stat with time off work.
Stood with his nose pressed against the front room window.
Looking out on sunny Sussex.
Cricket on the telly.
'R' in the top left hand corner.

"Yorkshire, bloody Yorkshire.
Why have a sporting event in Yorkshire.
Bloody Yorkshire.
It's not even in England, it's bloody Yorkshire".

Another fun filled 5 days ticked off from my childhood.

Really interesting masterclass with Mitchell Johnson, didn’t catch it the first time. Sangakkara is superb, great player and comes across as a really knowledgable decent bloke.

He was pulled out of law school to play for Sri Lanka. One of the best players of our time. Cracking cover drive.

Sangakkara the best new addition to the Sky commentary for years.

During the first test there was a point where they handed over from him and Michael Atherton to Shane Warne and Ian Botham. It was like someone taking away your glass of fine claret and replacing it with a dog bowl full of White Lightning.
