Sad to hear the cheese shop on Western Road has closed down. I no means went there often, but special occasions and Xmas I used to pop in to be £50 lighter but full up from cheese tasting and a bag full of fromage delights. Tough market when people are counting the pennies I guess.

Interestingly, I need a search of NSC to see if it had been posted before, and one of the threads that came up was "funny names for womens parts"...???

Bit gutted it has closed. Like yourself was only an occasional visitor but they did sell a particular French cheese I really like that isn't generally available in supermarkets. Oh well!

I think the 'occasional visitor' thing is key. That's why, say, Hanningtons closed. A bit like with Kerry Mayo, everybody mourned their passing, tho nobody was THAT great a fan at the time.

Last went in a few months ago for a nice enough light lunch selection of cheeses & meats. Useful for last minute "what the hell am I going to get them" xmas presents.

But their Burwash Rose was about 50% more expensive than exactly the same cheese (the best cheese in the world by the way) from Brighton Sausage Co.

I'm a big fan of Chambertin, Tunworth and Colston Bassett. Will give Burwash a go.
I have never bought anything in La Cave. A specialist cheese shop is a tough ask in a city the size of Brighton. There is that new one in Kensington Gardens, which looks too pricy to me.

A bit difficult to be a great fan of our Kerry, he wasn't that good a player, loyal most certainly, but great? . . . certainly not.

Nice place, too big and too expensive. Fourth and Church probably put them out of business if we're being honest.

You scared me for a second. I had to Google check that he wasn't dead!

I beg to differ. The title belongs to Flower Marie. I do take your point about their mark up, it isn't uncommon. Stonegate do at least offer some of their cheeses, via Farmers Markets.

For the best selection of cheese and some great local ones try The Cheese Hut at the Cheese Man on Hove Lagoon.
Mate of mine runs it, also him and the entire family are all Albion fans and season ticket holders

I've been a few times. Not the range that Fromage stocked, or the ability to taste most of it, but has a good selection of local cheeses as well as further afield.

Is it La Cave a Fromage that did 3 meats with 3 wines for £25? Whichever place did that, I went there a couple of months ago, and it was lovely.

Surely that is the nature of that sort of business isn't it? Doubt many people went there every week as part of their grocery shopping.
