Media seem to be of the view Boris May throw NI to the EU as the price of leaving........

Disgraceful.

Treason.

NI is part of the UK.

If Boris tries that, he is finished.

Any tory supporting that is a traitor.

Conservative and Unionist party.

I personally don't give a shit, but the tories should. It is like Christians saying '**** Jesus, and hello Mohammed, you lovely fella'.

To be fair, Boris saying 'oh bollocks, let's have May's deal then' will be met with the derision it deserves. In other words '**** off, let's have another referendum'.

Anyway, the backstop is kicking the can down the road. And no deal is kicking every can into orbit. So remain it is. And F off PPC

On Outside Source tonight they said that something like 55-60% of people thought that a 'No Deal Brexit' would bring and end to the matter entirely. Completely missing that such an outcome would then lead to years and years of negotiating a myriad of future trade deals.... So, whilst in favour of another referendum, I'm now wondering what people would actually vote for, and why.

That is coming from somewhere - it was rumoured even before he won the leadership contest.

The Plan was:

1) Go back to EU and agree original plan (NI stays in EU)
2) Have a referendum in NI to give him a mandate.
3) Lose majority (ERG / DUP gone) put solution to parliament.
4) Call election.

However, it looks like the plan was changed and they went for freak EU and parliament out with no deal threat.

Good point. Yes, people may well say 'enough is enough, end it now' not realising (as you say).

I hate referendums. And I am not keen on universal suffarage. The wrong sort get suffered.:thumbsup:

Has it not been suggested by many that the EU seem to be weakening and being prepared to do a deal with Boris but that will all now be lost with the latest developments at Westminster.

The EU have had enough. Their position, is, was, and will continue to be intransigent except for cosmetics.

The UK will not be allowed to make a success of BREXIT where the EU is concerned. I've said that since the start and nothing has altered my thinking.

I read somewhere over the weekend that it was US who asked for the backstop to be included in the first place, so the Tories are dismissing as undemocratic and anti-democratic something that they themselves instigated.

Which completely gets missed in the debate. It was invented by the Tories.

Brexiteers can blame the opposition and the EU all it likes. It was the Tories who got us here.

May called an election and blew her majority away to an extent she could never got her deal through because of her reliance on DUP support.

It's an opposition's job to oppose (like the system or not that's how it works) and she further made the mistake of not having cross party talks when hugely weakened.

If May hadn't called that election, we'd be out by now with backstop applying to NI only.

It's incredible watching the Tories now blaming everyone else but themselves, especially after chucking out 21 of their own MPs. many of which against their better judgement continually showed loyalty to May.

That's not to say Labour have been particularly brilliant either. It can't help having a conflicted Brexiteer as leader.

:lolol:

He hates the EU (as a concept) but agrees with it's policies.

Interesting programme on BBC of the Rise of the Nazi party. Lots of ‘emergency powers’ enacted in the name of the people, democracy undermined, etc

I bet Ppf has it recorded so he can **** himself off daily to it. It's his version of Pornhub.

you are being played, exploited by people with an agenda to perpetuate a new myth. it doesnt even make sense, UKIP was around since 1993, public division on the subject for at least a decade. the election promising a referendum was before ATAD was proposed, passed on 30 June after. the rules already came into effect so its too late, and UK legislation was compliant anyway.

Yes, I know.

Why did it go so ****ing mental in 2015 then?

I think you know.

Be interesting if Boris blinks and goes for the NI only back stop, it might be his only choice. This incidentally was rumored to be the original Boris Plan A.

As being discussed on the news I'd forgotten that the EU will instantly say yes as it's already been drafted.

Would that get through Parliament if:

- Boris allows the rebels back in
- The DUP will definitely say no, but the ERG vote with the Government (some members are leaning towards it)
- A number of Labour MPs feel enough is enough

Most of the rebels want a deal. Boles, a previous rebel, wants a deal. Supposedly there is a bit of labour regret about voting down the deal. There may be some non-spartan ERG about who would back it, perhaps. The MPs who reject everything in favour of a new referendum are as bad as the spartans, by the way.

If Johnson delivers this he'd be a bit of a hero.

However, I suspect this is another ruse and he is still actively charging towards *no deal* for stupid reasons unknown.

You’re wrong it’s there to hold the government to account. Massive difference to opposing it. There’s lots of things that go on in committees where there’s agreement the opposition though are the checks and balances

The arse end of Hangleton
People who will say no
The DUP
The ERG - they've said they'd reject it even if the backstop were removed
Unionist-supporting Tories (they are quite a few of these)
Remainer MPs (LDs, SNP, PC, St Caroline)

People who say Yes
Mainstream Tories
Some Labour

Don't know
Some Labour

It will be an interesting vote for sure: I think it will be close but the government would win it

It's a short term solution though as it what it will do is create a barrier between NI and GB.

It will certainly accelerate a move to a united Ireland and may well lead to Scottish independence

What larks,

Despite some ridicule from some on here, I've always supported a united Ireland. It's strange that NI doesn't want to be treated differently but then defends it's laws and processes that are different from mainland UK. For example, they have stone age laws around abortion and gay rights. They still pay rates which include their water rather than move to council tax. So they're happy to be different when it suits them. Besides, they voted remain so surely effectively staying in the EU would honour their wish ? On top of that, I recently watched a Stacey Dooley report about NI. I was utterly gob- smacked at the racist and bigoted actions and views on the Unionists. The Republications came across as fairly level headed and open to compromise. To be frank I think the UK would be better off without the Unionists.

Scotland will go their own way if we leave the EU regardless of how we leave. I suspect they'll still eventually go their own way even if we don't leave.

If the UK breaks up Brexit voters are completely responsible. Don't try and kid yourself it would have happened anyway.
