I was very saddened to hear the news about Chris yesterday, he will always be revered as an Albion legend for what he has achieved, but sadly the results and performances don’t lie and it felt inevitable - nobody in the football world would have survived that run of form (3 wins in 23 games) and the performances that went with it. Let’s be honest, we crawled over the line because of Cardiff’s inability to get the results they needed against Fulham & Palace.

But Chris isn’t likely to be out of work for very long and I think there is a ready made job there waiting for him at West Brom (regardless of whether they go up through the play-offs or not). Failing that, I think the Celtic job would be another potential destination for him.

Good luck wherever you end up next Chris and thank you for everything you’ve done for our club. A true gentlemen of the footballing world. UTA !

Yep - they were five points above the relegation zone with 5 games to go - Norwich got one point after sacking Hughton - Sunderland went on a 4 game win streak after Norwich sacked Hughton (including beating Chelsea and Man Utd) - they had lost 7 of the previous 8 before he was sacked. Houghton would have ground out the results needed to keep them up - just like he did with Brighton this season - and Sunderland would have folded in the process (like Cardiff did).

Hughton was sacked because they believed they had a better chance of getting a result away at Fulham before ending with their nightmare run in. They didn't believe Hughton's Nowich would be capable of scoring and beating Fulham. Or, fluke a miracle win against someone from the top 4.

Hughton got Norwich relegated, they just didn't give him the chance to complete the job. I'm not having a go at him for it, but I think the full story should be shared.
