my mummy said that (when she was working at a school) this boy was basically storing dr pepper in his locker and drinking about 10/15 a day. he got properly hooked and was medically addicted to it.

that is indeed possible - especially if it is the diet version.

Research is ongoing at sussex university into the effects of aspartame and phenylanin (sp) which are used in nutra sweet.

Apparently they are addictive and can cause 18 different types of congenital defect.

Pilots and surgeons in the US are not allowed to drink them 24 hours before working.

Also, and here's the best bit, although they are used as part of a calorie controlled diet, they actually cause weight gain as the chemical stops the body from burning carbohydrates effectively.

That is why you only ever see fat people drinking diet drinks FACT

They would be banned if it wasn't for the power of pepsi, coke etc.
Even non diet soft drinks (Lilt, Robinsons squash) can have it in.

whatever that banana flavour stuff doctor used to give me was

I remember a banana-flavoured medicine, which I think was called Disprol.

It was quite nice, actually.

just as good as fizzy milkshakes (atill in development..), lager coated cereals, and chocolate garlic bread..

dont knock it, till you try it!

That last one is an excellent suggestion.
It's only through social conditioning that we often baulk at the idea of many foods. Garlic enhances the taste of practically anything, and I've had crumpets with garlic paste and strawberry jam - it was wonderful.

It's actually an idea not too far removed from chocolate covered ginger or honey-mustard dressing, and couldn't be any weirder than Turkish Delight.
