That was our government's job, and we voted them in.

You are reminding me of those bleating Nigerian politicians demanding apologies and reparations from Europe for slavery, all the while they ignore the rampant corruption and greed of their own administrations and of course the roles of their own people in the slave trade in the first place..

In the not too common cases people vote for anything other than what their family and friends used to vote for while they were growing up, they vote based on information, not reasoning. And the supply of information is controlled - if newspapers tell you that a percentage or two of changes in the taxes is a big question, people will feel the same. If they don't, people will largely ignore that topic and inform themselves regarding whatever the oligarchy-owned media decides to bring up... which is never going to be the advantages of unprofitable health care.

People in the US don't make the decision to be unable to pay their rents. What gets me with USA is that the mass majority would be better off under a European right of centre socialist system - with healthcare, unemployment benefit, social housing, employment rights, paid sickness, vacation. But there media sells them that all this is that socialism is evil. The rise and power of religion - as driven by Cheney as the only way to get the Republicans back in power is scary, as it is supposed to be the country of all religions (as it says in their constitution)

My real concern is what happens if the Supreme Court unpicks other laws that don’t align with their views.
