1972 was a peak year for soul, singer songwriters and progressive rock

Blimey I must be getting old.
Dark side of the moon is over 49 years old now, so far ahead of its time.

Wow, what a great year! But yeah, getting old. BTW one of those is the wrong way round, 'Clear Spot' was an album by Captain Beefheart, not the other way round.

It's a rather good one too (I have a double CD also featuring Spotlight Kid). Turn it down!

Strange how some of those albums are so revered, yet were commercial flops.

Hmm ... I have five of them. Not that vintage a year ... Now if it were 1977...

A handful of classics, but that’s it. Like most years really.

Way more than a handful if they are the albums of your youth. Do you actually know ALL those albums well enough to reduce it to a handful?

Exactly. Pick a year, any year. Don't show it to me. List the best albums from it.
Yep, there are some classics there, and some dross.

Agree.

I randomly looked up 1990 and there’s 5 albums which I could term as classics in their fields. I might not necessarily like them all myself but that’s not the point.

This isn’t really my point. My point is more that, in my opinion, each and every year there’s some amazing albums released…as well as a lot of good ones….just like 1972. That’s all.

And Little Feat are still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

You need to know every album listed intimately on whatever year you choose to come to that conclusion surely?

Assuming it’s your decision rather than a rock journalists

To which year are you referring?

My point was that this scenario plays out in any given year.

Don't forget, music is highly subjective. There is no wrong or right (unless you disagree with my views of course).

I was interested in which of the albums listed for 1972 that you considered to be dross. There are a handful that I would say are dross, just interested to know which ones you were thinking of
