Reported strong interest from Napoli in Østigård.

So at least 7 have to be sold or go on loan before we can bring anyone over 21 into the squad, but ar the moment have more than enough Home grown players

It will be interesting to see how many of those 31 are still here at the end of August.

Contract extensions for Alex Cochrane, Tom McGill, Jack Spong, Lorent Tolaj and Ben Wilson. good news. I thought I'd read somewhere (on NSC perhaps?) that McGill was leaving, and was rather surprised by that - thought he was well ready for a good loan next season.
Shame about Baluta, of for nothing - not great considering that we apparanty paid nearly £3M for him. Injuries played a big part though.
Surprised to see Ulrich Ella among those released - I thought he looked promising in the U23s.

Have to agree regarding Ella , will be interesting to see where he ends up and how his career progresses ( or not as the case may be )

I'd heard McGill was being released. I thought I was imagining it.

Naylor reported he was intending to leave last month “in search of game time”

https://twitter.com/andynaylorbhafc/status/1524733372630802434?s=21&t=6xZSK6nfbj5pCTQVTfL-yQ

The 1 year contract extension / option could still mean he is - but also means Albion can now earn a fee if he does.

Strikes me as being similar to the Walton situation. It was reported he'd be leaving at the end of the 20-21 season but we then renewed his contract and sent him back out on loan and eventually sold him to Ipswich for a small fee. I expect we are looking to do similar with McGill if he wants to leave for game time and we are trying to generate a small fee for him too.

See the last post on this thread about Ella.

No speculation about it from me.

https://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?p=9732287

Hadn't seen that before - so obviously I'm not goting to speculate about it either - but I would have thought the fact that it was over a year ago and that he's been playing regulatly in the U23s this past season would surely suggest that whatever it was, it is over and done with by now?

He was U23 GK last season, so it wouldn't be much progress. Loan would seem to make more sense.

Scherpen and McGill half a season each on loan and half a season as 3rd. choice 1st.team GK perhaps?

I may be wrong but it sounded like his decision to try for a move elsewhere. He is Canadian isn't he ? May be looking overseas ? All my guesswork.

I assume the club has basically agreed to his desire to look elsewhere and the contract extension is just to ensure we get a sell-on %.

It was in the press at the time, it was a bit silly but highly unlikely to have anything to do with his contract situation at all. I'd suggest he didn't progress as hoped

Likely. Without going into detail, he didn't hurt anyone or put anyone at risk, he was just silly/dumb really.

But only somewhere around 200 minutes for the U23s this season probably tells the story - not good enough. At 21 he must have come a little bit further and be able to outcompete players that are several years younger than yourself, something that hasn't been the case. Probably going back to France and Ligue 2 or something now.
