He's level, but maybe his forward knee is just in front of the opponent.

But it's very, very close.

Note that the linesman isn't keeping up, so to him, it would appear that Gross is in front, as he wouldn't have been able to see the defender.

It's not, is it? They make it up as they go along. But oh well. Didn't deserve anything more. As soon as JWP lined up to hit that FK just before half time I sensed we would drop points.

It seems just a matter of luck how the lines get drawn. One person does it how they were today and the system says offside, but on another day a different VAR official could have positioned them slightly different. It always feels like a manual process where the VAR person says ''yeah thats roughly about it'', and then an offside is given by inches which wouldnt have been if the lines were drawn more accurately.

Exactly the kind of decision we were assured wouldn't happen this season: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/eng...l-whats-new-in-the-premier-league-for-2021-22

"If the two offside lines shown on TV touch or overlap, the goal will stand -- whether the linesman flagged or not."

"On marginal offside, we've now effectively re-introduced the benefit of the doubt to the attacking player," Premier League referees' chief Mike Riley said. "So it's the toenails, the noses of the players who are offside; they might have been offside last season but next season they won't be."

They are more full of it than a Monday morning Glastonbury toilet.

We had one go in our favour last week, how on earth they judged Martinelli offside was just bloody ridiculous, they guessed at best,as long as football continues to use VAR for the use of cancelling out goals for shits and giggles rather than what it was originally intended for then football supporters will be on the end of mind boggling decisions like these.

The manual part of the process allows a tiny bit of ‘interpretation’, and they are always, consciously or subconsciously, going to ‘interpret’ it to back their colleagues’ on-field decision whenever they can.

Give that same VAR, the very same incident, but with no real-time flag, and I think there’s a good chance they draw the lines a little differently.

The nature of football at this level is that games are often decided by very small margins. This was marginal - but then so was Livramento’s shot hitting the post, the Odigard free kick (and follow up from Nketiah) hitting the bar at Arsenal, and so on. No real point getting upset. Another point won!
