A decade into Amex Stadium match days, I am slightly disappointed that some niggling issues haven’t ever been resolved and some areas this season, have been getting worse. I think it would be good for the club to re-evaluate some aspects to ensure it is a high quality experience.
Rail Travel - since we moved to Falmer, getting home from evening kick-offs has always been a struggle. So many times, Southern announce an enhanced service only for the extra coaches not to be added and cancellations aplenty. It really shouldn’t be too difficult, especially when they are being paid a lot of money. I believe that if I had an actual ticket rather than the BHA ticket, I could have claimed a refund on at least ten matches so far this season. In the main, the ease of travel (apart from evening games) used to be a plus about the Amex but last night, taking one and a half hours from leaving the concourse to getting home to Polegate is ridiculous.
Seats - Whilst applauding the desire to maximise the capacity of the stadium, our row of seats were all squashed up to get extras in during the closed season. The seats are all mounted close up together whereas they used to be at least 40mm apart on each side. Neighbouring rows haven’t been altered. The width of the seats is now almost on the legal minimum and it is not comfortable at all. We didn’t initially notice but since people have started coming back properly, it makes for a poor experience. So far, the club have just suggested that we move? I like sitting where we do with some really nice people. I hope that they can put it back to how it was, we can see on the mountings where they used to be which is how we know how much space has been lost.
Atmosphere - we really seem to have lost something, can we get it back?
Post match, we have always been encouraged to stay post match rather than join the queues of people who left five minutes early, waiting for trains. This season we have regularly been pushed along the concourse early, toilets have been closed and it has been much less welcoming. Do the club want us to stay or not? Happy if you want to reduce the areas but be clear in what you can provide.
We should be really enjoying this season but it takes the gloss off.
