After what happened at Wembley in the summer, I hope it fails.

Why? Would it not be a good thing for the FA to learn from the mistakes of what happened at Wembley, and use the lessons learnt to put on a brilliant tournament? How would that be a bad thing?

Be interesting to see what cities host.

Probably London, Dublin, Cork, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle.

That view supposes that the FA is the sole body at fault in the summer, they put a few new procedures in place and hey presto, problem solved, let's go again.

Right. So no point in bothering to try and do something better then, might as well give up.

In terms of hosting major tournaments? Yes, for a while. What happened last summer was seriously bad. So have we turned a corner? Well we've still got fans launching assaults on players on the pitch, lobbing bottles etc.

Other countries deserve it more. We need to take a look at ourselves and get to grips with some of the problems in society before we should have another crack.

It's 6 years away. How long should we wait?

Have you ever been to football in Europe? It's far worse in many countries than it is here. The problems that happened at Wembley in the Summer are completely fixable with lessons learnt. If we wait too long we'll forget the lessons.

But we'd be bidding for it before that without any real plan or without any obvious sign that we're going in the right direction

Been to football in Europe and South America and never seen any trouble.

Why would we put a plan in place for something that might never happen? Surely you get the thing and then have years to plan for it, rather than plan for it for years and then don't get it?

Putting aside the valid conversation over fan behaviour, on a general level I find it sad that we’re increasingly unlikely to ever host a World Cup again.

Feels like the willingness to even consider bidding for it is gone. At least for another decade or so.

One turn, in 1966, and that’s it for England/UK, apparently.

Pretty gutted, we are overdue hosting the WC. Starting to wonder if it will ever happen

We hosted the Euros in 1996 and pretty much did last year as well. Thought UEFA had moved away from hosting in one country?

After what happened last summer I can’t imagine too many countries voting for this. A dead duck and a waste of money.

Not so sure Ireland will agree with your "one country" definition

After we disgraced ourselves at Wembley I hope we don't host another tournament for many, many years.

The wonderful Euro 96 seems to be just a distant, happy memory now.
