Probably some clubs already keep in touch with their academy players when they leave but hopefully more will follow after this. Can be a very rough experience for young men to have their dreams destroyed by being told they are not good enough... and clubs at this level have all the resources to help out with that.

Excellent.

I have to say, most clubs in this country are much better than they used to be at this sort of thing, even for the kids at a really young age. The coaching and pastoral care of the kids is on a different level to where it was 10/15 years ago, let alone 25 years ago when I was playing in academies.
