Well, fancy that! When I saw that Labour had been out campaigning I thought that would let the Tories squeak past the Lib Dems. Not so, apparently. That was worth staying up all night for!

This constituency has been Tory since 1832.

That might make a few sit up and pay attention. They've held it for nearly two centuries. The prior incumbent resigned citing that politics is cruel despite being found guilty of breaching lobbying rules.
The other stand out figure from this is a 34%. That's massive even for a byelection. Let's not pretend that this will translate itself into a general election result, but there only needs to be a swing of about a fifth or a quarter of that total in order for the Conservatives to lose their (substantial) parliamentary majority.

The stupid thing about this is, if Johnson hadn’t tried to overthrow the Standards Committee, letting Paterson serve his suspension, it would have blown over by now.

That was the moment the starting pistol was fired. But there's a plethora of this, and the drip-drip of the release is really having an effect. I'm sure there's more breaches to come but, even if there isn't, the details regarding the cronyism of the PPE contracts will start to be announced. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that some new issue will be unearthed exposing further corruption or cronyism.
And that's before the wider, more 'normal' political issues are factored in, although that's a departure from your point which I disagree with for the stated reasons.

I'd be surprised if it does. BB will shrug this off by lunchtime with the normal mid term drivvle and announce he's 'getting on with the job' (cue photo shoot at yet another vaccination centre)

Didn’t most of them cross the floor 2-3 years ago? Any leadership challenge is likely to result in more of the same shit influenced by the extreme right faction in the party. The benefit will however be that it’ll be less opaque and no longer fronted by Johnstone’s chummy bumbling idiot facade.

This is a massive result, a huge swing from a comfortable Tory majority of 23,000 to a LibDem majority of almost 6,000.

It may only be a protest vote, and may not be repeated on the next General Election when it comes, but this is a damning verdict on Johnson and his sleaze ridden government.

Up and down the country now there is no such thing as as " safe " Tory seat. This will enthuse so many activists that they can make a real difference and things can change. Are you watching Tim Loughton?

Whilst it’s incredibly difficult to understand why even 12,032 voted for this scum government, more than double of that voted for other parties. The Blue Wall has been bulldozed.

The 1st stage is 15% of Tory MPs have to write to the 1922 committee wanting him out.

Then there is a vote and 50% of Tory MPs need to vote to ditch him ( if Johnson wins he is immune from being deposed for a year ).

Then there is a leadership contest.

Probably not, and I'd be amazed if they announced anything, but there might be something going on behind the scenes.
This is because it influences the larger question, which is the future of the union. There will be a referendum north of the border, that's just a question of when not if. If Scotland goes, it completely reorients the parliamentary arithmetic in whatever name that follows (GB and UK wouldn't exactly work), and does so in favour of the Tories. The non-Tory parties will have to have a serious rethink if that happens.
