is it just me or have we become remarkably shitter at set pieces in recent weeks? yes we were exceptionally bad tonight, moder in particular, but he's someone who was a set piece specialist at his previous club and internationally. so what's happening? over the last 2 months or so nobody seems capable of any decent dead ball delivery whatsoever.

For as long as I can remember -- since 2004 anyways -- the complaints about set pieces have been unending.

If they've actually been shit for night on twenty years this has to count as a management failure without parallel since the days of British Leyland. Across how many managers? Through how many transfer windows? In how many leagues?

It beggars the imagination

Even if the delivery had been good our diddy strike force (plus Dan “can’t head” burn) wouldn’t have got past coady and co anyway.

Moder did actually take a good one in the second half.

But generally, we were dreadful.

well yes but there's always the possibility of a lucky own goal or a kindly deflection (see that mwepu chance in the first half). we didn't even give ourselves the CHANCE of a leveller tonight with a litany of appalling deliveries in most of the set plays we had

Didn't our best chance of the game come from the one good free kick we took all game?

But yes I agree. We've had some very decent set piece takers over the years. Paul Watson, Spanish Dave, Vicente - they aren't as common as you think. Unless you've got an absolute specialist, like Ronaldo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and the like then this complaint will be common on every team's forums.

That said, our set pieces generally were very poor again tonight.

The set pieces were shit in the 70s.

I'll let you into a secret.

We have never been much good. We have never won anything. We have spent 9 years in the top flight, total.

Transformation to a confident club, not bothered by the occasional drop to the second tier, but like Everton, Leicester, Palace, there or thereabouts, in the main, is going to take . . . a transformation. I'm not sure this is going to happen any time soon.

How we repond to the inevitable relegation will be telling. Not this season I suspect. Next season, though?

Money, director of football and owner are key, not so much the manager.

Oh yeah. Your points are spot on. Horrendous delivery all night.
And We ran out of luck with the late goals tonight.

Perhaps the atmospheric pressure is less at Lancing, and the ball soars over the first man i training?

We've been poor at set-pieces without Gross for ages and he's average.
Gross' set pieces have been awful for ages - the best thing he does is raise his arm in the air before kicking the ball; the rest is cack.

I disagree we’ve become shitter in recent weeks as that gives far too much credit to our set pieces earlier in the season. We’ve not had a reliable set-piece taker since Knockaert left.

Suddenly longing for those days when we had 2 people on corners and played them short anyway. What happened to that fad?

Absolutely dismal from Moder tonight

Gross was good for a couple of seasons.
