Good list from another Goodbye Mr Chips fan.

I'll add Spencer Tracy and Marlon Brando to that lot.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
Of the Hoffmans I can be endlessly in awe of Philip Seymour, but sometimes want to boil Dustin (you know, apart from the many humdingers he had for a couple of decades).

Patrick Stewart who I don't think has had a mention yet - as well as his movies he's done some very good TV series like "Blunt talk" where he plays a British newscaster who has moved to LA - very funny. And a very good Macbeth on the stage.

I'll go for the tv actors....
Bill Paterson
Ken Stott
Shaun Dooley - for the voice
Ann Reid
Sarah Lancashire
David Tennant
Olivia Colman
Mark Bonnar
Tom Hollander
David Jason

Most definaely all of this, l'd far rather watch a British tv actor at work than a so called American movie superstar.

With the notable exception on your list of David Jason, slated by me on another thread, as for my money at least, he is overrated.

Love Bill Paterson. All the way back to the 1984 Bill Forsyth movie Comfort and Joy.

His smooth Glaswegian tone.

Yes brilliant, very versatile, and one of my faves too.

Add to that Robert Lindsay and Will Hay, from very different generations l know.

Will Hay .. wonderful movies.

I was born mid-60s, but the movie and comedy baton was passed on by my parents to the 4 of us.

Ealing comedies, some WW2 morale movies taking the mickey out of Hitler, Norman Wisdom, James Robertson Justice ..... all
