Marseille’s player hit in the head with a water bottle trying to take a corner.

Basic "Marseille playing a football game"-stuff. Always some crazy crowd incident or fight on the pitch or whatever.

I'm not surprised that he's a bit shaken up.

Absolute wankers. I assume that was a Lyon bottle? Plastic I hope.

That could have been urine, petrol or something even nastier like acid. Why the acrimony? They're not even geographically close.

Before PSG found their murderous sugar daddy, they were nothing.

Lyon and Marseille by far the two biggest clubs, the hatred goes back decades. A simply journey down the Rhone valley, by French standards not long.

So it’s similar to Man Utd / Liverpool before City and Chelsea muscled in?

In some ways but still not really.

France dont have clubs like that. 91 years of Ligue 1 and no team got more than ten titles (St Etienne).

Six in the last twenty years, so not a lot different.

Going back it was a lot more open here. Between 1950 and 1970 we had eleven different title winners and, I think, 14 different FA Cup winners (it meant a lot then).

Ligue 1 seems to be having loads of crowd trouble this season.

Having been to both Lyon and Marseille in 2016 - I am not surprised by either sides.

Ah, that’s nothing. It may look a bit savage to us Brits with our “sit on your hands, don’t think about alcohol, please remain seated” uptight attitude. That shit happens all the time over on the mainland.
Can’t imagine many of the “waaaah! where’s my Stilton and Camden Stout pie!!?” mob on here lasting five mins tbh.
