I saw this poster in Lewes and thought it may be of interest to some on here, especially after the recent Australian Pink Floyd thread.

According to reports they seem pretty good and have the seal of approval of both Plant and Page..

It looks pretty full time judging by their tour schedule which includes dates all over Europe and also Australia.....

Amazed at how dismissive some people are of tribute acts , sure some of them are not very good but others are very good. Some are very close musically though its the quality of the lead vocal that often makes or breaks them. What you don't get is the original stars(though line ups do change) what you do get is to see and enjoy live music in a small environment where you are very close to the group and where atmosphere is very good. I have seen a few down at the Concorde 2, some will not be revisited but the Small Fakers are pretty good as are From the Jam which has Bruce Foxton . The guy who does Bowie is also very entertaining.

In many cases the only alternatives are to watch old videos because the artists are no longer performing or be one of 60k in a stadium tour , not for me.

Steve Hackett, although not strictly a tribute band, as he was a pivotal member of Genesis in the early days, actually is more akin to the Gabriel days than the remaining 3. I have seen Genesis and hackett many times and prefer Hackett.

I also saw the Illegal Eagles at burgess hill and they were quite brilliant. I also saw a thin lizzy tribute band and again having seen the original 4 times, it was like being at the original bands concerts.

I am a great fan of tribute

There is also a guy around doing a very passable version of George Michael and his voice is so close to George’s it’s actually uncanny.

I think the illegal eagles were very good as well . They sort of sum it up £20 in a great little venue or £90 (if you can get one) in a massive park where you need binoculars. No choice for me the first option much better IMO

Fully agree with the last two comments, especially re: Hackett - superb show at the Dome, recently. Give me a small venue any day, and obviously you're not going to get the originals playing them, but it's great to hear their music played reasonably accurately in most cases, and superbly (Aussie Floyd) in others.
Great value nights out. :)

When the opportunity to see an iconic artist or band is sadly no more, either because the artist has passed away or the band is no longer together and are very unlikely to reform, tribute acts offer the only means of capturing at least the essence, if not the reality, of the live experience of something which is lost forever.

However in some cases even if that iconic artist is still performing the live circuit maybe a tribute act might offer a better alternative and a closer rendition of the original artist's work than the original artist himself can now offer.

Good God! He's not just murdered it, he's hung, drawn and quartered his own song. Quite sad to hear how truly awful he sounds.

I was never a great fan of the idea of Tribute bands, but I must admit I'm coming round to the idea - probably a better experience than trying to watch two or three old men from the original band struggling to do what they did fifty years ago (even though they'll have a far superior sound system these days, and probably backing singers and supporting musicians too).

I've seen the Bootleg Beatles a couple of times (once on their 40th. anniversary tour!) - and they are terrific.

I saw a Beatles tribute group, I don't think it was Bootleg Beatles though. We were in a smallish venue (about 200 people) it had a low ceiling and the group were on a low stage and their heads were close to the ceiling. Great atmosphereand great musicians and vocals. A very positive experience.
