Same with the Green Party here. Nice name, not a lot to it though.

On the other hand they are usually under closer watch. Politicians from the big parties are expected to be lying, piece of shit, hypocrites so when they do similar stuff people just shrug.

Careful, you’re heading towards ‘whataboutary’ territory with that, there’s plenty of people who will be along later who can cover that [emoji6]

That is weirdly so true, the majors can do as they please and no one bats an eye lid, whereas here a Green makes “an error of judgement” and its burn him*, he’s a heretic.

* in a carbon neutral way!

Did something "wrong" owned up to our and apologised straight away. What a great example, if only more politicians could do this

Should have got a boat - would have kept him out of Brighton far days.

Luckily I can't think of anything that our rulers are doing currently that's worse. so that's unlikely to happen.

do somthing you object to, then apologising hoping that excuses, is not the examplar for politcans. its licence to do whatever they wish.

he didnt do anything wrong. he did what any sensible person would do with the blocked lines and an important meeting to get to. the trouble is with his moral standing on opposing air travel. he could have got a coach, instead demonstrated that when its important, air travel is the way to go.

This guy has to resign.

He makes Owen Paterson look like Mother Theresa!

Green politicians must never fly, they must be vegan, their clothes must be organic and fairtrade, they must have solar panels on their houses, they must drive an electric car if they can’t cycle, they are not allowed to give plastic toys as presents and they should never leave the lights on over night. I heard once that one of them keeps the tap running when they are cleaning their teeth FFS!

This guy has to go.

Yep. Had he not been in the Green Party this would be "man goes to conference".

Yes. But he is, so he's a hypocrite. And yes Labour, Tories, Socialists, etc are also hypocritical (Labour MPs with children at private schools for example) and there have been threads on here in the past pointing it out. It's a regular NSC pastime.

It does seem to me though that Green/Environmmental/Ecological hypocrisy is more blatant and prevalent. A Green flying is not an uncommon occurrence, but it is like an anti-racist campaigner giving an impassioned speech at a BLM rally about defunding the Police, slavery, colonialism, etc etc, and then saying "Woah! Watch your backs girls, you're all going to get raped! There's a n****r over there!" When challenged, they reply "Yeah, it was a mistake sorry, but nobody's perfect."

Absolute non-story.

Perhaps when the planet is burning we’ll stop attacking those who are trying to do something to save it.

If we're relying on Phelim Mac Cafferty to save the world then we're well and truly screwed. The idiot can't even get recycling up.

Had it been a Tory councillor, there would have been cries of ‘racist’, ‘nazi’ and ‘scum’ from many on here. And then backed up by Angela Rayner with shouts of ‘resign’.

You think someone would have been called a racist for flying?

It’s nothing like that.

What a horrifically misjudged post this is.

Your comparator behaviour would get someone a criminal record. Nobody has been charged for polluting the planet by taking a commercial flight.

All politicians are hypocrites, that's why there is a climate crisis.

I was watching Frankie Boyle last night and there was a very interesting guy on there saying yes things like plastic waste are an issue but it's also a distraction from the real problem which is, to paraphrase him, the people in power being greedy and corrupt. Politicians as well as the likes of Bezos.

We need to be going after the people at the top not the local MP that will never get near Downing Street.

I'm not sure it's exactly the same but I do take your point.

Two questions though:

Does this mean the only people who should care about global warming are vegetarian, non-driving, non-flying people who somehow manage to make a living without using anything made by a corporations? Or does it, perhaps, mean that we should make cars more eco friendly, flying more expensive, vegetarianism easier and corporations more accountable?
