Jason Steele 6 - poor mistake for the first goal and some wonky play with his feet but made a couple of great saves that also saves his rating.

Adam Webster 6 - looked rusty and gave the ball away quite a few times in first half and struggled with their pace, but happy to see him back

Shane Duffy 7 - did well

Haydon Roberts 6 - weak start and his passes were intercepted to frequently but grew into the game as it went on. Some way from challenging his competitors.

Joel Veltman 5 - poor performance, wasted several good attacks with really bad through balls. Defensively did his job as usual.

Pascal Gross 8 - excellent set pieces and overall created a lot of opportunities and dictated play. Man of the match.

Alexis Mac Allister 7 - rough start with quite a few misjudged passes, dribbles and challenges but became better as the game went on and was one of the reasons Brighton controlled the game in second half.

Dan Burn 6 - good threatening runs and some tidy play but also lost the ball a couple of times and crossing was poor.

Jeremy Sarmiento 7 - aside for the mistake on their second goal, he had a great first half and challenged the defenders multiple times. Looks very promising. Completely invisible in the second until he was subbed, but overall very nice to see him.

Aaron Connolly 7 - not too involved in first half but really good in the second winning the ball high up the field multiple times as well as making threatening runs and hitting some opening passes.

Jurgen Locadia 5 - played safe and easy but was often late into pressure and did not seek/find dangerous spaces often enough. Too bad for him. Might have been the last we saw of him.

Subs
Enoch Mwepu 8 - the midfield with him, Ali Mac and Gross looked very dirty and even dirtier when Biss came on. Lots of dangerous forward runs, and this guy is going to score some goals. Looks like he is starting to adapt to English football.

Yves Bissouma 7 - happy to see him back and you could see what we've missed in his seemingly effortless brilliant treatment of the ball and positioning. Not enough to do to warrant a higher rating.

Neal Maupay 6 - got in and looked very hungry and got involved in the game, with mixed results: some nice and some not so nice linkup play.

Lewis Dunk 6 - not enough to do to get a lower or higher rating.

Marc Cucurella 6 - his pace and energy is nice and he is obviously always a threat but his actions tonight were a mixed bag with several good intentions and not so very good executions.

Agree with Swansman with exception that I’d take 1 off Gross for some really poor set pieces, again. Someone else needs to be on corners.
That’s two games in a row that Mwepu has had a significant positive impact on, both against top 6 sides. The idea of a central mid with Mwepu, Bissouma and MacArgie is exciting.

However his execution for the assist for Mwepu’s goal was the best cross of any Brighton player in the whole game !!

Not many standouts other than we need an upgrade on Steele plus Sarmiento and Mwepu look excellent finds.

On my stream the commentator said the crowd noises for Biss were "Brighton fans encouraging him to shoot" - erm, wtf ?!!! What a strange comment when it seemed obvious it was Leicester fans booing his every touch.

Yup, commentator also confused Mac Allister and Connolly for the first 40 minutes. Fair play that he found out his mistake and got it right after that though.

Broadly similar but:

I thought Webster was pretty good, especially as it was a come-back match for him, so would bump up to a 7

Would take Connolly down to a 6. Not because he was as awful as some are saying - and I definitely haven't written him off - he is young, works hard and is getting some things right (also does seem to have reduced the diving). But compared to scores for other players I think he was more 6 than 7 last night.

Sarmiento gets an 8 for me. He made one bad mistake and maybe faded a bit, but he's young and clearly talented and he makes things happen and that makes me very happy and some of what he did do was very classy (or 'dirty' in Swedish).

For much the same reasons Cucurella gets a 7. If you try to go forward and make things happen sometimes it won't work, especially against the level of players Leicester had on the pitch. But I still LOVE him and his hair.

Overall, I was disappointed to go out but very happy with the performance. And even happier when I think Sanchez will be back in our goal from now on.

Agreed. Having been at the game, thought MacArgie was terrific 2nd half. We completely bossed the midfield after the break. Kookie looks such a threat, a well deserved assist.

If we can only get our best team out on the pitch we will give someone a good spanking.

Not sure we have a best 11 that could work together and without a decent striker I don't think we would score 4 goals in a game.

Would be happy to see the return of the Mac for the Liverpool game. Makes things happen. Lamptey is surely going to be playing against the entitled on Saturday?

Steele 5 Just no excuse for that pass for goal. Somebody told Leicester players he would dive to the right and they were all right
Duffy 7
Webster 7
Roberts 6 All time we play with a back 3 he will miss out because think his only position is fullback
Veltman 5 Distribution unusually poor
Burn 4 So poor out wide
Gross 6 Fair
Macallister 6
Sarmiento 7 So refreshing having a player willing and able to run with the ball through the middle
Connelly 4 Just think he is not up to it
Locadia 4 Didnt seem to get in game

Bissoma great to have him back
Mwepu Hopefully no 10 we have been looking for. Has made more runs in box then all our other midfieders do.

Agree with these, but Connolly a 6. Some good movement, but poor finishing. Also Bissouma 6, was nothing more than average.

Upgrade on Steele? We've got one, haven't we? Steele is our specalist experienced on-the-bench keeper, who also plays in our cup teams, in the early rounds at least. I'm pretty sure, however, if Sanchez gets injured or suspended, we'll see young Scherpen between the sticks.
..... and if that doesn't work well enough, we can just tell Barcelona* to f*** off and keep Rushworth!

* allegedly nterested.

Yes, an upgrade on our #2 goalkeeper, who is not good enough at goalkeeping. Is he really there only because he's happy to accept his lowly position but decent pay? Specialist at not-a-chance-of-the-first-team? Experienced, meaning just old and been around rather than experienced and developed in skill and the way we play out of the back. Seems a waste to me but then you are the ultimate know it all on here.

NO I AM THE ULTIMATE KNOW IT ALL!

Anyway... I think Steele is a fine third keeper and you definitely want one of those as there's been a couple of hundred occasions through PL history when teams had to use their third or sometimes even fourth keeper. So I dont think he is a "waste". But I agree he is probably one of the weakest no.2 keepers in the league. But its very difficult to get good backup goalies because you need someone who is both great, accepts the role, relatively cheap, doesnt need much play time and keeps himself fit and training hard despite knowing that he will never, ever be able to outcompete Sanchez. Its probably not easy to find a keeper like that.

Also possible the club just believes Scherpen or Rushworth is going to be good enough sooner rather than later and that a year with Steele as the main backup is a good enough solution rather than spending money on a new number two who might become redundant shortly after arrival.

True dat

I am not disrespecting him as a "waste" rather to me it seems a wasted opportunity for someone else. I mean Sanchez is very young why can't the "experienced" keepers be the goalkeeping coaches. Apart from age perhaps aiding in getting over the clangers that any keeper makes I don't really see why keepers have to be so experienced. But yes your points do explain some reasoning behind it but we do somewhat seem to have a #3 keeper currently as a #2.
