have to read the actual report to see the details. principle reason for high deaths was healthcare procedure to empty hospitals into care homes, which would have still happened if we'd locked down a week earlier. we followed protocol to respond to a flu pandemic, which wasnt what we faced.

Despite the fundamental failings across the board I don't think especially in the very early stages people totally blame the government, we do however need to learn lessons. The public appetite for lockdowns in the face of new pandemics/health crises and obedience to them is much higher than the government thought and is a tool which can and will be used again. Had we lockded down earlier and indeed stopped the spread much of the problems we later faced with hospitals full of patients that needed somewhere to go would not have happened.

It's not an unexpected verdict. We all saw what was coming as Covid spread through Europe and watched the suffering in Spain and Italy. Johnson and Co thought they knew better and acted accordingly.

So lots of old Conservative voters sadly died before their time but even sadder, nothing will change, and so Johnson will lurch on to the next crisis having learned nothing. He will probably get a bigger majority next time out.

With Johnson its a seamless government of chaos, everything is on a whim and a prayer.

When he caught Covid I thought at the time the silver lining would be a more cautious approach. I worse wrong, even with an 80 seat majority he is weak and gets pushed around by Tory oddballs on the right and their mates in the media and opaquely funded think tanks

I was commuting to London daily pre-lockdown last year and the couple of weeks before lockdown was called were really quite worrying. Should have been called at least a week earlier.

To be fair the report praises the vaccine rollout.
