The ECB chairman Ian Watmore will leave his role with immediate effect having served ten months of a five-year term.

It is understood that the 63-year-old is leaving by mutual consent after discussions with the board of directors this week. He has been under increasing pressure since making the decision to cancel England’s tour to Pakistan, which was scheduled for later this month. That only increased after what was described to The Times as a “shambles of a meeting” with county chairmen and chief executives on September 29.

I wonder if he fancies a job at Sussex CCC?

He didn't cover himself in glory cancelling the tour of Pakistan given that they travelled here to play us at the height of covid and endured weeks of bubbles. Poor form. Right that he should go.

It was massively dishonourable

But i'm sure that isn't the reason. These high pressured Ashes talks are the more likely cause. Huge amounts of money at stake

The state of English cricket is an absolute shambles at the moment.

There is a particular crisis with those players who take part in both international red ball and white ball cricket, with the likes of Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer and Jonny Bairstow to name but five all suffering injury, fatigue, loss of form or a combination thereof.
