"We know it's far from comprehensive and it's not a definitive BBC list," says the young English intern (presumably), but they publish it anyway.

Alongside Raducanu's win, we have....

[Brace yourself]

England's football World Cup win
Murray's Wimbledon win
Super Saturday at London 2012
GB women's hockey gold
Wilkinson's World Cup-winning drop goal
England's 2005 Ashes win
Leicester City's Premier League triumph
England win netball gold
Asher-Smith becomes world champion

Absolutely hatstand.

Quite. I mean who will EVER forget where they were when England won netball gold...?

Surely they're missing the event that had one of the best lines of commentary.

'where o' where was the German defence, but frankly, who cares', courtesy of Barry Davies.

That list is so BBC.

The British Lions 1971 and 1997 wins in NZ and SA are pretty special, while Torville and Dean's 1984 Olympic gold medal perfect performance was electric and watched by a UK TV audience of 24 million.

It's a totally bizarre list. We've had about 150 years of competitive international sport and the BBC produce a list nearly entirely from the last 15 years

As Brok has pointed out, the sub-four minute mile must be the most significant British sporting endeavour all ... and it's not even mentioned.

And why is Leicester mentioned? It's an English club winning an English league (and if you want to talk about shock value, surely Forest winning it the year after being promoted was a bigger shock?)

Was this list compiled as a school project?

Can’t believe the British Curling team Gold in 2002 which I stayed up into the early hours of the morning in slack jawed awe to watch is not on the list. I’m out.

Daley Thompson?
Celtic first U.K. euro winners?
I’m sure there are loads of examples better than the bbc list, but hey, it’s all about opinions.
Needs a poll but the list would be endless!

This is why I can’t stand the BBC , they can’t even make a list of greatest British triumphs without making it into a PC list

What cock drew up that list?

Loads of better suggestions already, and I'd also add Linford Christie's gold medal in 1992. Netball gold at a Commonwealth games? FFS.

How on earth is the ashes win in there? Yes I know it was a particularly significant and exciting win, but it's a match contested by just two teams. Hardly a huge triumph that we finally managed to win it purely because we were so crap for years beforehand.

And as others have said, ridiculous that the vast majority picked were within the last 20 years.

The only ones worthy of making that list, for me, are:
- 2003 rugby world cup
- 1966 football world cup
- Murray winning Wimbledon
- Raducanu winning US Open

Super Saturday was great, but was a collection of individual achievements that coincidentally happened on the same day. Leicester win was phenomenal, but hardly a great British sporting moment that united the country. Ashes win not really that great as above. And the rest are too insignificant to mention.

Any list that has no mention of Hereford, doesn’t deserve our attention.

No mention of Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France for the first time.
