Beaten by a better team. We started well in the first half, had a really good chance from pressing and pressed really well. We were in good possession, gave the ball away and it ends up in the back of the net.

"They're a good side and they were considerably better than us in the first half after that. In the second half I thought the lads rallied and were great and again we've given the ball away and it ends up in the back of our net.

"You can't knock the spirit, we kept going and kept going but beaten by the better team."

He didn't get too many touches unfortunately, but worked hard closing down. Too early to tell really, but he's a big lad!

My standout players were Moder (he never wastes the ball), Roberts (who looks like the next CB off the production line) and Richards (who carries the ball effortlessly, glides across the grass). Swiss Andi has bulked up a lot since I saw him last which will help him, and he looked so happy to score, it was brilliant.

Very impressed with the performance, the Brighton fans were non-stop and hopefully Mwepu's injury isn't as bad as it looked (helped off, looked like a knee).

Good night, glad we went.

Clinton Morrison generally talks without hyperbole and is improving as a pundit as he does a bit of work behind the scenes to know players, watch games and provide decent content. He's okay. I know there is another thread on this but Danny Mills doesn't bother doing any research. He is not okay. He could talk 24 hours about Leeds but wouldn't have a clue about anyone he deems (with his overrated opinion of his own intellect), to be beneath Leeds' beholden position. Just filling silence with his overblown ego. He was a bit of a useless thug as a player and he is a bit of a useless thug as a pundit.

Mills starting point is that Leeds and ManC are amazing, no warts, any losses the result of refereeing/VAR bias against. As well as not so subtly hating all their rivals, dredging for any conceivable failing. Little old Brighton joined that long list with the double over Leeds and victory over ManC.

His radio commentary for that last game was something else. Slagging off Potter’s project and painting us as a dirty team of thugs.

What a thoroughly pleasant evening that was. Cricket on the TV, Albion on the radio. So refreshing to hearing the youngsters see out a comfortable win against a physical and experienced Championship side. Moder continues to impress and must be close to a start for the first XI and I was delighted for Zeqiri to finally open his account. Roberts once again demonstrated the benefits of the Albion's handling of his development, it will be interesting to see what the plan for him this season is.

A real feel good start to the season that we can continue to enjoy until 3pm Saturday when the hard work begins again.

Very nice and balanced piece. I can remember the 0-0 and 2-1 defeat referenced in that article very well. The 0-0 was only rescued by a good day spent in the Cardiff hostelries and the Costa Express ferrying me back to Seven Dials after the game. As for the 2-1 defeat, awful game, squandered lead and a controversial winner for the Bluebirds. It is amazing how far we have come since those days which were not all that long ago.

Mills seems to be representative of a group of pundits who want to define themselves as straight talking by sneering at modernity and analysis. There's quite a few dunces on the internet who pleasure in using the term 'football hipster' and see Brighton and particularly Graham Potter as an easy target for this. 'Results are all that matter' is their repeated mantra, never giving a moment's consideration to the medium and long term methods that clubs use in pursuit of those results. 'Bissouma's a decent player and should go to a higher level' they say, as if he appeared fully formed as a top level player and wasn't scouted playing for a Lille side who were nearly relegated, coached and carefully developed to help him reach his current levels. Sneering at people who know about foreign leagues is a smoke screen for their own ignorance and laziness. If you want to earn a living by giving your opinion on football, but don't want to bother doing any homework, then saying that the things that you don't know about are irrelevant is a very convenient argument.

The team that we put out last night was very young, but any pundit willing to do their homework could tell you with five minutes research that Brighton had invested a combined figure of around £40 million in signing just four of those youngsters, or that the starting eleven had five full internationals (Karbownik, Moder, Caicedo, Mwepu & Alzate), and six age group internationals (Steele - Ex England U21, Roberts - England U18, Tsoungui - Belgium U18, Leonard - Scotland U19, Roberts England U17, Zeqiri - Switzerland U21). Two of the three subs have also already been called up by Ireland U19s. Brighton are making an investment in international youth players that those who know about overseas leagues frequently comment on with admiration ("What does Tim Vickery know? Football Hipster!") It's a testament to the work being done by the scouts, coaches and recruitment team at the club that we are competing with the big boys for the signatures of some of the best players at all age group levels and have reached the point where we can put out a second string with the amount of potential shown last night, whilst also performing very well in EPL2, loaning out other prospects, and seeing sold-on academy graduates scoring goals elsewhere (Well done Danny Cashman). There is potentially a very interesting story there for anyone who has an interest in football that stretches beyond the money that can be made from pontificating on it with ill-deserved confidence. Sorry Danny, you were saying about results being all that matter..... :yawn:
