'Mental Health' set to replace VAR as the EPL issue of the upcoming season.

Didn't it used to be called what it was? IE the pressure that naturally comes with having to perform at the level of 'elite' sport that pays your million quid wage?

Like Biles, maybe the simple solution is just to switch off your twitter feed?

He is not the first.

I could give you a pretty long list of players and former players who took their lives or went into deep depression.

Certain parts of the brain actually dont give a shit about how many quids you make.

This is so key.

I don't get how so many people still don't get this.

Ever thought about becoming a professional doctor, seeing as you've got such a great understanding of the subject and sterling advice?

Or maybe pop off with Piers Morgan and you two can keep each other occupied with your boring, archaic views.

Would suggest you read up on what Larry Nassar did to Simone Biles and reconsider simplifying the incredible complex issue of mental health.

It was never going to be simple tho eh? Doesn't necessarily mean those people who earn millions in the process should be always treated as walking on eggshells. Else where does high- pressure highly-paid 'elite' sport begin and end?

I agree - they shouldn't be treated as walking on eggshells.

They should be treated like people with a mental health issue. IE with respect and care.

Quite a wide range of emotional issues at play.

Biles was one of many victims of serial sex offender Nassar. Scarred for life imo. Who wouldn’t have empathy?

Kyle Walker trotted out some mental health issues AFTER being caught yet again breaking Lockdown laws to party and **** escorts. I’m surprised Lockdown (alleged) drink driver Grealish didn’t claim the same thing. On a different planet to Biles, sorry but far less sympathy from me.

Overall with depression or anxiety, it can afflict anyone. I’m glad that it’s openly expressed these days.

It’s nothing to do with social media, and everything to do with being in the right frame of mind to produce a top performance consistently. A mental block can happen to anyone, no matter what their employment, sport or otherwise.

So. No more Al-BINO chants then? Always made me cringe, that one. No more chants about Big Poles and managers wives then? No more 'banter' at opposition players, either at games or on social media? Including all our favourite pantomime villains.Ban works just fine for me. You?

When you see the likes of Ben Stokes and Tyrone Mings talk up about mental health, two people who from the outside have mental strength in abundance considering what they've been through and what they've done in their careers you know mental health is a big thing and can happen to anyone. We should be applauding Mings for speaking up on this issue, as he has done on the BLM movement and taking the knee, he's an impressive man and I hope if he has not already he quickly recovers from this.

It isn’t mockery or social media pressure causing the mental issues.

Simone Biles suffered from twisties, trying to complete a 2.5 somersault. A twistie is not knowing exactly where you are in the air, so as to complete the move safely, ie a mental block.

You don’t understand it, because you’ve never experienced it, but feel qualified to mock it on social media, whilst blaming social media for their problems.

Only regret I've got about this thread is not starting it 48 hours earlier. EPL starlets were clearly going to be falling over themselves to follow the trend, just as soon as Biles made it acceptable to their agents and media handlers to do so. Expect far more of the same BS to follow as soon as the little multi-millionaire darlings feel a little bit picked on. Court social media? Get social media. Boo f*cking hoo

Mings is so lucky given his comments - "So I did a lot of work on that with my psychologist. I was given a lot of coping mechanisms - whether it was breathing, meditation, or just learning how to bring yourself into the present moment. To stop letting your subconscious take over."

Unfortunately accessing mental health support via the NHS is very difficult to obtain, and everyone who is unable to afford a private psychologist will suffer for longer before they are able to access the help that they need.

There is only so much money available but given the issues created by covid on mental health, more focused funding on mental health is needed urgently to help all those that have suffered during the lockdowns.
