[Misc] Vaillant Boiler Central Heating

Anyone on here know much about Vaillant boilers or can recommend a Vaillant specialist?

We have recently moved into a new property and have an ECOfit Pure boiler. It doesn't appear to have any programmable timer for the central heating, we have found a Drayton Digistat laying around but the operation of this seems to be a basic on or off. I need to see if there are other options for our heating as this seems a bit of a strange set up.

Of course, it goes without saying this is a 5 minute job for someone who knows what they are doing.

My other half is nagging me to change our boiler to a combi. I keep being given conflicting advice as to if they are a good idea in a house with two shower/baths and 4 bed rooms. Some say they are suitable and great,other say they are not suited , whoever thought it could be so confusing

I have the same set up and no issues with the combi. Just make sure it’s a big enough capacity and your water flow rate is good enough [eg do you have plastic pipe from the mains to the house or is it copper/lead to the mains?] and it will be fine.

I definitely wouldn’t change to a combi if you have got two showers/baths, combi boilers are perfect for flats or small houses.
The hot water on a combi isn’t good if 2 taps are used at once.

I’m a plumber rather than a boiler specialist, I wouldn’t recommend getting a Vailliant specialist if the hot water and the heating actually work.
The Drayton Digistat isn’t the easiest to set up IMO, maybe speak to an Electrician that’s familiar with heating controls and get new controls to operate the heating.

We bought a 3 bed house in 2014 and installed a combi. in 2020 we extended to a 5 bedroom with a family bathroom/ensuite in the master and a wetroom containing shower, toilet and washing machine on ground floor. Never had any issue with the boiler

The Vaillant can talk in two languages - basic 240v switched live which is what the drayton will do, or Vailant's own low voltage ebus which is much more intelligent and will include load or weather compensation.
I like the VRT350F myself - plug and play and £150ish, but V have recently bought out the SENSO controls range which are better looking with more bells/whistles but also more expensive.

That's interesting. In many respects I love our new Viessman combi boiler over our old gravity tanks in the loft and immersion tank set up. However, just in a small 3 bedroom house with one toilet and shower we do have to be mindful of running the hot tap or flushing the toilet if someone is in the shower. By all accounts our system and pressure is fine and like other posters I was always led believe that combis were not suited to houses with numerous showers/baths etc.

We have the Vaillant ecofit pure boiler we had it fitted when we moved into our bungalow as I wanted to knock the airing cupboard wall out to extend the bathroom as it was just an old persons walk in shower room, the plumber who fitted the new boiler and changed the radiators etc was Dales plumbing and heating based in Hove, he also supplied and fitted our previous Vaillant combi boiler in our last house in Brighton. The programmer he supplied is a wireless system with the receiver fitted to the front of the boiler with the programme unit (sender) unit in the hall. The make is Salus and is designed to fit and match the boiler. Yes I recommend Dales and the Salus unit, very easy to operate and only had to change the AA battery once.

3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms no problems with our Combi.. can run 2 showers and taps at the same time.....must be flow rate or capacity or something.

We had a vaillant combi installed in the 90s and when we later upgraded the gravity shower to an Aqualisa power shower the shower water heat would oscillate causing scalding and freezing (I exaggerate but you get the picture - annoying). If somene turned on a tap somewhere in the house the shower went mental again. We put in a Glo-Worm combi boiler 6 years ago, and built an extension with varous bits and bobs including a whirlpool japanese bath 3 years ago and I can take a shower with no variation in temperature even if some plum turns on the garden hose.

Money is the solution. And plumbers and electricians who know what they're doing.

Interestingly I have a Valliant Combi boiler. Could not fault it in the 7 years we have had it

You could try these guys https://www.pavilionheating.co.uk/, they specialize in Valliant although they do fit other makes as well. The two guys who run it (Charlie & Chris) are Albion supporters and have been recommended and used by lots of people on NSC. They fitted a new Valliant Eco Combi boiler and a shower for me in April, top job by guys who really know their stuff.

Got a Valliant hybrid combi fitted by NSC favourites Pavillion Plumbing. Anyway, the hybrid bit is that it’s a combi with a small tank on the back. We have 2 bathrooms but not noticed any loss of pressure or temp in the shower if other taps are run. It’s a big old unit for a combi though!
