Apologies if fixtures - I hadn't spotted this anywhere else -

What (to me) is a very interesting article on the huge effort and science that goes into making football pitches (and other grass-based sports) such a vast improvement over the pitches that I used to watch football being played on.
Yet another area where Englishmen lead the world, apparently - who knew?

Of course the English lead in this field, we are obsessed with lawns, me more than most, my lawn when I lived in Ascot was like Wimbledon Centre Court.
Talking of greens, I stare in amazement when on a really perfect golf course green, its a work of art.
