Does anyone know about refurbishing a concrete area in a garden?

Is it a 5 minute job to slosh down a wet mixture and spread it around a bit? How thick a layer is needed? Will it just crack?

Dig it up otherwise it will crack etc again in the same places.
If it's just used as a footpath then put 75mm of Type 2 stone down.
Compact it down with a Wacker plate then lay 75 mm of concrete on it but make sure you put some expansion joints in it to take away the chance if it cracking again as it expands and contracts due to heat and cold.

Anything less than 50mm you've got no chance.
Quick eyeball at your pic suggests that sub base was sub standard which is behind the worst of it.
Really if you want it to last it all comes up

Thanks for responses. Clearing out existing to depth of 150mm and then replacing it sounds like more than five minutes and quite expensive?

Gravel is an interesting idea. Anyone else think that is a good option? Space is outside back door at side of house and not much used.

could put down some slabs if there's enough depth. or go with the gravel idea.

problem with lifting concrete is not knowing how much is there, can turn into a substantial job, then have to back fill all that material.

Get a pressure washer and clean it up. I bet you will be surprised at the difference it makes. Gravel is a horrible idea.

Looks really horrible. I've been there. It would be best to get it all out. But what else is out there? Ypu may have more to deal with than meets the eye.

If you can clean it up a bit you may be able to use a resin bond gravel.
I have never done this before but heard it is relatively easy to do. I suppose it depends how hands on you are.

I notice your path is alot lower than your dpc level

Do you get standing water problems there,looks damp

I'd certainly address that problem while you have the thing dug up

Looks like an oil spill unless it’s the outside tap or hose leaking.

Out of interest why would a path lower than a DPC be an issue?
