[NSC] Who remember Plymouth away twice in the late 80s

I remember 1st 86 I think Steve penney scored equalizer in the last minute and we went absolutely potty in the uncovered rain soaked end. Then our mob in police escort ran their mob across the park, the so called central element. Smelly Ron was there leading the charge lol. Then later on in 80s was the infamous gulls eye coach where someone got locked in boot coming home, then ran there mob again, and Yeovil where the town wanted to kill us as I remember. Thankyou Ian for that coach it was a day to remember and tell the grandkids. They don't make days out like those 2 anymore.

The days when our MEN were MEN and could outrun any FIRM. We once managed to get to Longport station in ten minutes without them so much as getting within 50 yards of us. Thankfully the train arrived in time.

I once said 'boo' to the Millwall fans as our trained pulled out the station. PPF also NICKED the sweets of a 9yo Pompey fan. Well, actually the kid had dropped them and decided to walk on because they fell on the drain, but they were the black jelly babies.

Scarfers deserved a whack on the back of the head, especially women and kids. The funniest thing was throwing stones and coins into packed terraces.

Chivalry was the name of the game.

I was on the Gulls Eye coach and yes I remember every minute of the day even the last bit at Yeovil where the coach wouldn’t leave until me and Larry were given a lift back to the coach by the old Bill. My wife said , “don’t get in any trouble” as we were expecting our first child a couple of weeks later.

There's nothing wrong with a balance of loving the football and having some shadow boxing around that era to add to the day, especially with endless amounts of alcohol that was consumed. It was handbags most of it.

I was on the Gulls Eye coach. Wasn't the coach company told we were attending a wedding?

Yeovil was funny. Pretty sure we were escorted half way back to Sussex?

Great day out, even though we were really shit and lost miserably.

always had to make a cock and ball story to coach company's in those days. Yeh it was a wedding I think.bloody good wedding and as for Yeovil it is a total blur apart from that escort part of the way back to sussex

Myself and a lad from Littlehampton (Can't recall the name) got split up from everyone else in Yoevil, we approached a young couple to ask them directions, when we got close, the fella just legged it leaving his girlfriend standing there!

She wasn't happy with him that's for sure! :D

Which explains why on game one of them I nearly died as the train pulled into Paddington and I opened the slam door to the carriage whilst swaying, Some lad we'd met in the pub pulled me back to safety. That sobered me up pretty quick. The second time I got shitfaced in the Wheel Tappers in Taunton while we waited to change trains on industrial strength scrumpy that smelled like an apple taster's piss and looked like tramp's piss. As I still don't know how I got in my front door to this day I'm going to assume it was the "sleeping cider". I think the Yeovil boys had the "fighting cider".

Sadly the Wheel Tappers closed. I seem to recall we stopped for a couple of pints which, at that strength, was enough to send us to incapacity.

I also remember that lad getting pulled out of the drivers sleeping compartment at Brighton station, he was covered in coffee granules and a host of other shit that people tossed in during the journey.

The look on his face was priceless, a look of utter confusion and bewilderment as he staggered off the coach! :D

Was anyone on the coach for Chester away i think it was a Bank Holiday 89ish?

I was on the coach to Plymouth in 1989, first of 6 visits I’ve made to Home Park following BHA. Plymouth yobs tried to attack our pub in Union Street at lunchtime don’t think they realised there were 100 Brighton lads drinking inside that spilled out onto the street and chased them through the city. A terrible football match broke out at 3pm followed by more chasing of Plymouth yobs in the park after. Then onto Yeovil where more running around took place...had to be fit in those days
