And it’s incredibly good value. We rarely watch the BBC live unless it’s sport or a drama but watch a lot on iPlayer. Over our lives we have listened to a lot of BBC radio even if these days it’s mainly Spotify and Alexa. The BBC is a part of our culture and I am happy to support it.

I'm the same as you, rarely watch it, but it does provide a pretty good service in terms of education, local programming, natural history and some sport.

I'm opposed to pensioners having to pay for a TV licence, but that was a decision made by the government, not the BBC itself.

Who said GB news will be right wing propaganda ?

Isn’t it supposed to be a carbon copy of the US’ Fox News? That would indicate to me that it will be as balanced and factual as… well… Fox News (so not very)

It's going to show how out of touch the BBC is with normal British people. Which will not doubt be helped by its main presenter doing his show from his home in the Cote D'azur to start off with

It's not, no one forces you to have a television.

It's a bit like saying that vehicle excise duty is a forced tax, but you don't have to have a car.

It's your choice at the end of the day.

And let's be honest, the quality of output from the BBC is infinitely better than the quality of the roads around the place at the moment...

I mean, sure, GB news will appeal to a certain type of person, you know, the kind of people who start sentences with “I’m not racist but…” or *insert incoherent rant about apparent PC gone mad/ wokeness here* but I doubt the Beeb are quaking in their boots

You tell me, you made the allegation despite the fact that GB news hasn' t gone live yet ?

If it wants to be a carbon copy of Fox News it’s doesn’t take much of a leap to presume it will just as sensationalist whilst lacking in depth and factual accuracy

Yes - let's wait and see. But one of its main presenters had to step down from ITV for calling a black man an "angry ape" (amongst other indiscretions), and several of the journalists are ex Brexit Party members. Having said that, I see that Gloria de Piero is also lined up - she was a strong Remainer.

You claim that "despite the fact that GB news hasn' t gone live yet ?"

What if it just turns out to be a load of right wing biased, unbalanced, nonsense? You're going to be gutted if that's the case, as you've said it's balance you're after.

I doubt it will be, because they won't get advertising revenue. It's probably going to be something along the lines of LBC where for every Nigel Farage there is a James O'Brien. They've been courting Alistair Cambell but have failed.

I'm quite comfortable with it to be honest.

We have strong laws in this country and if it's unbalanced across the entire content it will get shut down or platforms such as SKY will throw it off.

If you look at some of the investors they won't want to be associated with a far right channel.

Lastly News channels don't make any money in the UK. BBC is funded by the taxpayer and Sky News on paper makes a loss for the group. GB News simply won't survive as a television version of the Daily Express. People will only tune in for an unhinged debate/argument which is what makes LBC so successful.

All good points. I guess there’s always the History Channel for those who want to watch Nazis all day.

My Licence Fee - a mere £3 per week (less than the price of a pint) - goes on so much more; dramas, documentaries, current affairs programmes, Match of the Day, Spring-watch, chat-shows, Gardeners' World, Later With Jools Holland, films, etc.

Any one of these programmes is infinitely more interesting and entertaining than your pathetic BBC-bashing post.

Are you a Troll?

Celebrate it all you want, when it comes down to it if you want to celebrate an organisation that is willing to overwhelming prosecute poor women good luck to you.

The reality is at the moment the BBC are on the back foot, due to its prosecution practices. My old man is 90 and he is not paying his licence fee. I gave capita the green light to prosecute a year ago and not heard a thing since.

I told them separately 2 years ago I was unemployed, mental health issues etc. and they could prosecute me for non payment if they wanted and I have not heard a thing since.

Certainly helps when consuming BBC stuff like MOTD nowadays that I’m not paying for tax avoiding pricks like Gary. The end of the day for the BBC is nigh, people who don’t want to pay should just stop, those that do will save it.

I've not bothered ploughing thought this thread.

But just imagine if BBC1 and BBC2 plus all the BBC radio stations, websites and iPlayer and all the quality non-commercialised output they produce was to disappear OVERNIGHT - to be replaced by commercial TalkSPORT / ITV / Fox News type networks.

You would have to be some serious kind of weapons grade DICKHEAD to be in favour of that.

Never paid the licence fee anyway. The BBC doesn't need my money.

Says person avoiding paying the fee  :lolol:

Also, you claim they unfairly prosecute people but you have given two clear examples where you have explained someone is vulnerable and they have not pursued prosecution. Seems very fair to me.

And you still watch the BBC, despite playing on unemployment and mental health issues to get out of paying the fee for a service you use. And we are supposed to believe it's the BBC at fault and not you? Pull the other one, chump.

On this thread and the old one in the bear pit, every single person who claims the BBC are moribund and a force for bad, every single one who has claimed that has also admitted to watching the BBC. You don't even have the courage of your convictions.

As for pensioners paying for it, it should be means tested. Why shouldn't a 70 yr old with triple locked pension and savings in the bank pay for the services they use?
