Wilder being linked with West Brom now Fat Sam has done one. Could see that being a good match.

Same club, same golden share, so no.

I was going to write an essay to explain why you are totally wrong, and I suddenly got a notification that Brighton had taken the lead at 3-2.

Feck our differences, that is a stunning result.

It’s a shame Man City couldn’t show that respect.

Good analysis! Howe would seem the best option (albeit a bit risky given smug Eddie's penchant for playing decent football). But it looks like he's almost certainly going to Celtic (can't sign anything until after Bournemouth's season ends, otherwise he'd lose his gardening leave payment, apparently). Dyche, Wilder and Ismael all play hoofball to varying degrees, so would suit Palace's style. Of those, Dyche would be the safe pair of hands, so hopefully he won't be tempted.

Big call for Palace....I'm genuinely quite interested in who they go for, and how it pans out.

I had wondered why Howe going to Celtic hadn’t been announced. I’d assumed it was because he was holding out in case anything else cropped up in the PL. the gardening leave does make sense however.

I think another concern about Howe that’s not been mentioned is his recent transfer dealings at Bournemouth hadn’t been too successful. Jordan Ibe, anyone?

Diche has been saying today he expects to stay at Burnley, and the new owners want him to.

Was lovely to see the Palace players making such an effort when Roy asked for one last group photo with his boys yesterday.

With half their team out of contract this summer they are going to need a master in the transfer area.

Could be fun.

Everyone keeps mentioning this, but if you look at the list, a lot of the out of contract ones are simply mediocre squad filler who they'll be glad to be rid of. I daresay they'll want to keep the likes of Cahill and Benteke, but some of the others are hardly going to be missed.

Henderson & Hennessey are two spectacularly crap keepers, who have already been replaced by Butland. Max Meyer has been elsewhere on loan and earns so much money they'll be pushing him out of the door anyway. Connor Wickham is a terrible Championship standard striker who hasn't played in years. Nathaniel Clyne has been a complete waste of a contract. Mamadou Sakho is absolute village as defenders go and another one on hilariously massive wages. Scott Dann is old and glacially slow. Van Aanholt seems inexplicably popular considering what a poor defender he is, and McCarthy is the sort of tedious squad fodder you'd find at every average Premier League club.

Of the remainder, Cahill will, you'd think be offered a new deal anyway, as will Benteke and perhaps Townsend. I don't rate Joel Ward but they seem to like him. Who is going go be beating down the door to offer them contracts if not Palace (well, perhaps Benteke might get an offer from abroad after his recent run of form)?

It's not quite the crisis they're making it out to be, and nor are they going to raise any money by selling any of them. So if they're going to revamp that squad, it's surely going to be a case of flogging Tiny Tears for a price significantly less than what they've always laughably insisted on, or gamble on cheap imports and Football League signings.

Or just go into debt like they've always done: I mean, that could happen.

The issue of the out of contract players is interesting, unless they recruit players from the academy it is going to cost good money to recruit fresh blood or do they retain the old guard and further extend contracts on an ageing squad.
Have Palace got the cash to splash, post covid losses I doubt it, so do they sell to buy, really only a couple of players of any worth in Zaha and Eze the later being injured isn't going anywhere soon.
So which manager is good at recruitment who is available? Big Sam springs to mind and has experience and knowledge of the club, the other names are relative novices in the transfer market. Big decisions to make and highlights a risky business model.

Blimey. Cost £9m, been paid £1.3m p/a for 5 years. Played 48 games = cost Palarse £322k per game or £2m per goal (8). Some of these footballers are literally stealing a living

Totally agree. I am not sure if it will be a disaster. In fact, this could be a chance to make a real change in the club and use the wasted wages more effectively. It could be a really excited time for Palace . . . if they get it right.

My point is that their next manager has a huge opportunity/responsibility to rebuild the club for years to come. It could go well, or, hopefully, it will be an unmitigated disaster, and a load more money will be wasted.

Lots of pressure on the new manager to get it right. Not sure which of your list I would trust with the job. Neither would I have much faith in the current recruiting set up a Palace (although I do concede that I am highly biased).

I guess though that should it all go tits up they can always hit the reset button, make their creditors pay for their folly, and start again with CPFC2022 or 23.

Lovely prose as always Edna.

But whilst it is the case that half their out of contract players are complete pig swill, they will still need replacing. And that job is quite a big one this summer, so there is a tremendous chance they make a massive horlicks of it. I fully expect the comings and goings at the Premier League's worst football "stadium" to be the most entertaining ongoing football story outside of Euro 21. They are going to bollox it right up and get relegated.

Hmmm, they seem to have an inexplicable habit of NOT getting relegated, to be fair, so I'm not getting my hopes up. And even when they do screw it up, trigger happy Parish presses the ejector seat button within weeks and always seems to manage to locate one of the traditional, tedious but effective relegation specialists. (Pulis, Allardyce, Hodgson, Warnock etc). The only one they've not had in yet is Redknapp, but you'd think they'd keep that iron in the fire until their next gamble fails.

Wonder if any of them are thinking about Nuno Espirito Santo? I mean, surely he'd just LOVE to work at Palace? :jester:

Meyer went on a free transfer - but yes, there is a hell of a rebuilding job and lots of players going for nothing... Of course W all know they’ll get lucky somehow and scrape something together that works.
