This is the move I think. King in check has to either take or move either side.

If he takes, queen comes in for checkmate, otherwise bishop does the job.

Edit: nope I'm wrong. Carry on.

Do you mean Qg5+ (using current notation)...?

Doesn’t lead directly to mate but allows rook capture so to be a pawn up and winning position...?

I think it is this. Bishop pinning Queen is other potential feature of what follows and the end comes quickly...

With Rook on a1 somehow being significant...

Still struggling. Any chess players on the NSC weekday shift able to explain the full solution?

As mentioned by someone above then Ra8-g8 is also part of it?

If in doubt look as though you're thinking deeply about it and then move one of your prawns forward one square.
And don't forget to hit the clock at a decent speed to show your conviction in the move.
