Just seen something about the amount of absolute classic albums released in 1971.
Personally, I can’t believe some of these are 50 years old now,all released in what must be the best ever year for music.

In no particular order,
Sticky Fingers. The Stones
Tupelo Honey. Van the Man
Tapestry. Carole King
What’s going on. Marvin Gaye
Meddle. Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin 4. Led Zeppelin
Who’s Next The Who
Hunky Dory. David Bowie
Every Picture tells a story. Rod Stewart
Muswell Hillbillies. The Kinks
There’s a riot going on. Sly and the family stone

There are many more, these are just some of the best ones.

Ziggy was mainly written and recorded in 1971, but, I agree 1972 was pretty good as well.

Anyway I’ll give you them and raise you,

Imagine. John Lennon
Aqualung. Jethro Tull
L.A. Woman. The Doors
Teaser and the Firecat. Cat Stevens

Indeed, some great albums released pretty much right through the 1970's in my opinion.

Biased maybe as the 70's really were my decade musically speaking.

As mentioned above, I enjoy all of Hepworth's tomes but the 1971 audiobook is the most played.

And personally I think we have nothing now which will be being talked about in 50 years.

But maybe i'm just too old

I thought this was going to be about decimalisation being introduced.

I though this was going to be about 1971 being the first prime number of the postwar years but then remembered my 657 times table

The 1970's were the best musical decade without any doubt.

The fact that it coincided with my teenage years is neither here nor there

You may be too old.

My view is that 'pop music' is too diverse now, and too abundant to have the sort of cultural impact of music in 1971, an era when more than 20 million viewers would tune in to Morecambe and Wise, let alone Top Of The Pops.

If your musical affections are too closely aligned with your recollections of your youth and a bygone lifestyle then nothing modern will ever resonate. It took me 20 years to do so but I think I have now separated my nostalgia or whatever one may call it from my enjoyment of music (which means I can enjoy brand new stuff). But I am a little peculiar.

Here are some more 71 classics:

The Beach Boys - Surf's Up
Caravan - In the land of grey and pink
Vandergraaf Generator - Pawn hearts
