Other nations have a special annual day, so why not the English? Lovely weather for it.

[Said in a wide context. Not to be owned by racists].

No problem with that, but surely there must be something slightly more recent and interesting than this St George bloke?

We’re one of the nations that have a day for an ancient ‘saint’ eg Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Spain/Catalonia celebrate today too,

Options - Battle of Britain, Trafalgar, Waterloo? But each would be wracked with arguments in the new climate of condemning our past.

Fewer to choose from as other countries sometimes have a day celebrating independence from tyranny - Bastile, Independence.

So you think we should have a Revolution

I'll drink to St George's day in the meanwhile :drink:

It’s an interesting discussion and decisions about what to celebrate can be fraught with issues and often quite divisive. But, very recently Berlin wanted to add a new public holiday to redress the balance with more religious landers which have numerous days off related to Big J. We wanted something modern and progressive and went for International Women’s Day. My point being is that the UK could celebrate a more modern “Saint” who brings people together?

I see where you’re going with this.

You’re thinking a Princess Diana day aren’t you ?

A day never passes without my thinking of the Queen of hearts.

Happy St George's Day to all Englanders across the globe. It's a beautiful sunny morning here in the greatest country on Earth.

Which part of Germany are you in? It’s a little cloudy here in Berlin. :lolol:

On a more serious note, thank you.
