They’ve both run a non-sustainable model for years and COVID was the last straw but they still don’t get it - Barca trying to sign free transfers of Alba and Wijnaldum and I expect will both be on £200k+/week, Messi still getting £500+k, wanting to resign Neymar. Real Madrid trying to sign Mbappe or Halland (whose agent wants €1000k/week). If they were any other business the bank would have declared them bust.

I've always suspected that DENT could suck the proverbial golf ball through a garden hose, all night long and then make YOU cook breakfast and judge you on it

I wouldn't go near her unless proper scaffolding was in place.

Laporta was elected in January, its hardly his fault the club overspended and borrowed a lot of money during the 11 years he was gone? When he left the club in 2010, they were debt free.

both Spanish clubs float on a sea of dodgy bank loans, rolled over or written off. general principle of any debt laden business to remain solvent is to make more revenue or cut costs. they cant really make more revenue, except for a massive TV deal related to pan european super league. the other option of cutting costs remains. so far they choose the former, lets see if they now grasp the nettle of the latter.

They are all back stabbing snakes. Barber and Parish have said as much. Did some have longer knives, or start stabbing earlier, maybe, but so what

NSC and this thread is for discussion.

The 12 sets of owners are pilloried (but not Perez who’s loved by the Spanish sports newspapers and Real fans).

It’s interesting to explore this further, the roles played and varying motives, as the excellent Sam Wallace is doing

if he was so good why did the club let him go?

on a different story someone from Lund wants to do his thesis on football and wants Brighton fan input....Maybe you should talk to him.

According to relatively reliable sources, Messi is on £1m a week NET - which means it costs Barca around £2m a week to employ him (ie, £100m a year).

A snippet from The Athletic article discussing Barca president Laporta's situation:

During the campaign to get re-elected last winter, Laporta was generally cautious on the idea, without ruling it out. Everybody around the club also understands that its awful financial position — total debts of €1.173 billion with about €730 million due to be repaid or refinanced almost immediately — means they cannot afford to look any gift horse in the mouth. Since being formally reinvested as president in March, Laporta has not yet shown that he has any plan for really dealing with this situation, and fears remain that the situation is so bad that the club’s socio ownership model is in danger.

Riddled with internal politics, it’s covered in a Cruyff’s autobio in detail.

Any two consecutive seasons with Barca trophy-less and Real Madrid with secret local government aid winning La Liga and the CL, leads to Barca’s members ousting whoever’s the president.

Because he reached the term limit so they had to elect another president.

Sounds interesting. Who?

Messi pretty much pays for himself. Problem is all the other shite transfers/contracts, like Coutinho who with transfer fee, clauses and wages cost the club about £150m and who is definitely not selling enough shirts and sponsor contracts to make up for it.

All of the teams involved are total shysters but Barca had cultivated this romantic idealistic image of themselves that football fans all over the world had fallen for (myself included) and they are now a mockery of that. Greedy, free spending frauds that now occupy the same moral vacuum of the terminally turgid Real Madrid. No longer rivals just two sides of the same grubby coin.

They dont seem to get that football has eaten itself. The money sloshing around in the football business is not required to ensure the “Football Family” continue to enjoy the sport. In fact the current money would provide more than enough for the football family to continue to enjoy it whilst also giving a decent living and profit to all those involved.

The trouble is corporate greed took over a while back and everyone wants a bigger slice of the pie instead of being content with the ample slice they have.
Real and Barca have always been at the forefront of that green. They have dominated La Liga and are now crying poor.

**** em.
