Back when I first started working there was a sandwich shop in Air St just near The Quadrant that used to do an absolute slab of doorstep bread, slathered in enough melted cheese to bathe in and topped with caramelized onions. It truly was a thing of beauty. I've never seen its like again.

Then, when working later in The City we discovered both the Birley's Hot Special and a place that did a roast dinner in a baguette. I'm honestly drooling thinking about it.

In the absence of both, at home, during lockdown, it's chicken and crispy bacon, tossed in mayo, with Iceberg Lettuce on thick granary.

Salmon and cream cheese. Always had to be first to the table at cricket teas to snaffle those.

I used to visit that little sandwich shop every Saturday. They did a great salad and mayonnaise, on a white doorstep for about £1.20. Happy to be reminded of that place

Peanut butter and jelly - disgusting but the great American comfort food.

IMO you can't beat an egg and bacon sarnie from M&S

Tuna Mayo Doorstep from Ayr St mid 80's
Chicken and Stuffing from the pub next to the Dome Box Office in New Road which I cannot remember the name of, also Mid 80's.
Ham and Coleslaw on any bread. Today at home.

Coleslaw is the greatest sandwich filling ever.

I'm going to very Spanish influenced on this one.

Good tinned tuna, they would never put up with ours. If you don't want to pay through the nose the Italian Rio Mare brand is the nearest you will get to what the Spanish think is basic tinned tuna.

Then add these, a mild pickled Spanish Pepper.

Finally chop a tomato and add loads of pepper and a touch of Mayonnaise.
