Good news.......

The Premier League plans to have fans in grounds at the final two rounds of matches this season, says chief executive Richard Masters.

Up to 10,000 supporters will be allowed into stadiums from Monday, 17 May provided the government is able to stick to its scheduled roadmap.

To maintain a competitive balance and ensure all 20 clubs get to play a home game with fans present, a round of fixtures will be shifted to 18-20 May.

The final round of games is on 23 May.

"Hopefully the final two fixtures of our season will have up to 10,000 supporters in them all," said Masters.

"We've got to go past those first initial steps in the government's roadmap to get there, so hopefully that will be a fantastic finale to end the season."

The Premier League has two realistic options for the fixture shuffle.

One would be to shift the 36th round of games from Tuesday, 11 May and Wednesday, 12 May to the following week.

The other would be for those matches to be moved to the following weekend - which coincides with the FA Cup final on Saturday, 15 May - and the 37th round being nudged on by a few days to become a midweek round.

Supporters returning to grounds would be a positive end to what has been a tough period for the Premier League.

Masters said the absence of fans for what is going to be virtually a full season plus a quarter of the 2019-20 campaign - added to the rebate that had to be given to broadcasters due to last term's late finish - is coming at a heavy cost.

"Towards the end of this season we'll get towards £2bn lost since the start of the pandemic in matchday and broadcast revenue," said Masters.

"Clubs have continued to invest in competitive match-day squads and the Premier League has continued to make good all of its contributions throughout the pyramid and wider football.

"But the ramifications are that ultimately if there's less money coming into football, then there'll be less money going out in the short term."

Any chance we can stop playing ****ing City on the first or last home game every bloody season please? The only time in 4 years we haven’t we were in lockdown.
Yes I’m aware it’s unlikely we’ll play them in the championship.....

Fair point dazzer. :)

Maybe we'll be safe by then, on the other hand

Well if we aren't safe by then we'll be done for, with our final two games being hom to Manchestar City and away to the Arsenal.

I do admire your optimism though! I think we'll be ok before then . . . hopefully.

Great news,i’m really missing the match day experience.Watching Brighton on tv is so stressful

I’m glad it’s not just me!!! I’m borderline hating watching us on TV now, in the ground I can let off steam and importantly leave most of the emotions in the ground. At home I’m struggling, feel like a tit shouting at the TV and sometimes taking me hours to get out of it, making 8pm games a mate.

Ridiculous decision if it happens. There is no guarantee we will all have had a double vaccine. Especially the younger generation who are likely to be in attendance en masse.

We have gone this long without Football in Stadiums. Waiting till next season no won't do us any extra harm.

Why not just wait till next season which will give us an extra few months to get everyone vaccinated. If we end up having another upsurge in cases it will not only kill more people but it could put opening Stadiums next year in jeopardy again. So I am against opening Stadiums till next season.

There's no chance we'll have had a double vaccine, let alone no guarantee. However, the original schedule meant only the final game was post the relevant lockdown easing step (it's not specific to football) - which was deemed unfair, so the penultimate set of games are potentially being moved later into that time period so each team gets a home game with fans. It's max 25% of capacity and will be by STH ballot - so how will the younger generation be 'in attendance en masse' ?? If it's 'ridiculous', then so is the rest of lockdown easing on that basis - which other bits do you want to pick and choose ?

Only one seat in 4 in use, masks worn, outdoors. You're far more likely to catch Covid at the corner shop.
