Been doing it since the summer where I live and it's much, much better than it was before. One of those Covid enforced changes that has actually worked out really well.
Same here, so much easier to with no queing hope it continues after all this is over

For the vast majority it'll make things easier - less queuing time etc - wouldn't mind it at our local, need to avoid it at weekends as the queue can be enormous.........only problem is it'll probably lead to an increase flytipping from people who turn up at the tip without an appointment and then can't be arsed to take their ***t home again.

I wish there was an escape lane. So if that queue is large you can bail out and not bother. Last time I went the queue was just around the corner behind the building so I couldn't see it. Took me half hour to get round:annoyed:

Does seem to move slowly - I sometimes see people at the front of the queue waiting for a 'particular' space (presumably so they are closer to whichever bin they need) which doesn't help when it's busy. Last time I went there at the weekend the queue was back to the stream so I bailed !

I'll wager most people will book their own tip slots. After dark outside the gates. Worse still in laybys and gateways on B roads.

Just been - or rather not been - to the local tip. Longest queue I've ever seen (Burgess Hill for those local - the queue was back to the roundabout). I guess they have probably blocked half the parking spaces to ensure distancing.

Last week and so far this week Worthing tip has been busy.

Burgess Hill tip? I’ve used that before. Pre-pandemic, some horrendous queues down that lane, right up to where the burglars/driveway specialists keep their horses roaming free.

It's good as all the skips are below you so throwing stuff in is easy. But its popular. And people sit in the queue until there is a parking space outside the bit they want. Rather than just park somewhere and walk to the right section.:annoyed:

I like that for dumping heavy stuff such as rubble.

I noticed that selfishness too.

At the busy Hove tip you cannot be selective, the Veolia blokes TELL you which bay you’ll be parking in.

Just how a site should operate. Wish someone would explain that to the cretins who organise tips in my neck of the woods!

In Gloucester they even put the labels telling you which skip is which facing away from the incoming vehicles! Unimaginable incompetence (and you are not allowed to wait, or reverse to the one you need either).

Further than that today.....just about back to the main London Road. An hour or more I would guess (I didn’t wait to find out).

If it stays awful for many months, Maresfield tip (20 minutes away) never has weekday queues.

My guess is that a load of ‘WFH’ and furloughed folk have been encouraged by the sunny weather to sort out gardens and junk.

It’ll be interesting to see how it’s organised...via a website with bookable slots? Over the phone as well for people who don’t use the internet?
...wonder if you’ll get people taking slots ‘just in case’ they want the tip in a couple of weeks and then not using it ...etc etc

Yep, plus limited capacity I suspect. I’m literally a 2 min drive away so it’s easy to pop back thankfully

This. Queues for the dump will EXPLODE with a few decent weekends weather in the spring. I was one of them last year, as we did some major renovating in the back garden during the first lockdown. I was sometimes making a couple of trips a day.

The fact the Shoreham one is shut on Mondays and Tuesdays doesn't help either.
