Bookies last night took large multiple bets on 3 unfancied horses at very long odds running today. The first 2 horses have won after their odds obviously dropped dramatically. Rumours are that the bookies are set to lose £10m+. Story has been mentioned several times on ITV racing. The last horse is Gallahers Cross in the 16:25 at Musselburgh. Kevin Blake says the way that the bets were placed has been very professionally done.

How are they linking the horses? Nothing obvious jumps out looking at the trainers and jockeys.

They have also just made the point that the bookies overround on that final race is something like 145%, so they have not adjusted the prices of the other horses running which could also have ramifications.

There ought to be something in place with an independent arbiter regarding overrounds.

A maximum figure should be applied.

Chris Poole explains all here. He is the Head of trading at Betvictor. Let's say there is a Northern connection

Really honest explanation there and not looking for any sympathy for his firm.

First one of these type of potential plots for a long time.

If the third one does come in, be interesting to see if the benevolent bookies do their norm and close the accounts of the lucky investors.

They don't like it up 'em you know.

Don't think the investors will be too bothered...

I recall Sir Mark Prescott answering the question 'What's the plan?' after Pasternak dotted up in the Cambridgeshire, being the subject of a monster gamble, with 'That was the plan'

Bookies have always had Overrounds well in excess of 100%, that's how they make their money for **** sake, the exchanges have much tighter books, ergo don't bet with bookmakers there is no value..

The Grand National will have an Overround of 145% with the bookmakers.

Agreed, however the 3.15 at Yarmouth on a blowy Tuesday will be a lot better.

I think the reason they haven't adjusted their prices for the 16:25 Musselburgh is because they hope the horse loses,

they probably aren't taking any money on the other 6 runners, also each-way is now **** for the punters as two horses have been withdrawn,

they are hoping that Gallahers Cross gets beat.

I don't tend to believe bookmakers, you try and have £1000 on a horse or greyhound in any of the high street shops and they will tell you to do one.
