Frequently I read that GP should be doing better because its the "best Brighton squad ever".
What is it that makes you sure of this?

Is it the way they are playing? If that is the case, should a) the manager get credit for it or b) if you are in the 'only points matter' camp been proven wrong by now?

Or is it based on merit?

Interesting in that case. CH's vs Potter's squads:

Keeper

Mathew Ryan - signed from Spanish top team Valencia where he played 23 games
vs
Rob Sanchez - academy player most recently in Rochdale

Left back

Gaetan Bong - 5+ seasons in French Ligue 1
Bernardo - 40 games in Bundesliga
vs
Solly March - difficult comparison as he was in CH's squad as well
Dan Burn - aside for nine PL games in Fulham, always in Championship/League One

Central defenders

Lewis Dunk - Lewis Dunk
Shane Duffy - five games in Everton, other than that a Championship player
Leon Balogun - multiple seasons in Bundesliga
vs
Lewis Dunk - Lewis Dunk
Adam Webster - Championship player
Ben White - academy player with one season in the Championship

Right backs

Bruno - CL/EL experienced La Liga player from Spanish top team Valencia
Martin Montoya - 60+ appearances for Barcelona, 60+ appearances for Valencia
vs
Tariq Lamptey - Chelsea academy player with one senior appearance prior to joining Brighton
Joel Veltman - Ajax cb/rb, Dutch international and buckets of CL experience

Central/defensive midfielders

Yves & Davy - still around
Dale Stephens - experienced Championship midfielder
Beram Kayal - Celtic player with 30+ appearances in EL/CL
vs
Yves & Davy - still around
Steven Alzate - academy player
Adam Lallana - 200+ PL games, former England international

Wingers / attacking midfielders

Pascal & Ali - still around
Anthony Knockaert - former France U21 and Championship player
Jose Izquierdo - EL experienced Player of the Year in Belgium (28 apps / 14 goals in his last season)
vs
Pascal & Ali - still around
Leandro Trossard - Belgian league player (32 apps / 5 goals in his last season)
Alexis Mac Allister - ca 50 appearances in the Argentinian league

Strikers
Glenn Murray - Championship player (142 games / 67 goals)
Florin Andone - 3 seasons in Spanish La Liga
Jurgen Locadia - Eredivisie player, 30+ appearances in EL/CL
Tomer Hemed - 3 seasons in Spanish La Liga
vs
Neal Maupay - Championship player (85 games / 37 goals)
Aaron Connolly - academy player
Danny Welbeck - former English international, Man United/Arsenal player etc.
Andi Zeqiri - Swiss div 2 player

If you say the current squad is the better one based on merits, how is that? Is it because of Lallana & Welbeck? Well, I hate to break it to you but these guys have hardly been shining for the last couple of years and looks like they will be unavailable more often than not.

So if it isnt player performances / player skill (according to a lot, they are poorly coached logically meaning they are not performing well and not improving their skills) and if it isnt what they've proven in the past (CH's team had more experience and more merits in the bag)... what is it then that makes you expect this Brighton side to perform a lot better than the one from previous PL seasons?

Ela e minha menina
E eu sou o menino dela
Ela e o meu amour
E eu sou o amour tooinho dela
The silver moon is out of sight
And the golden sun has come
A beautiful new day is born
Scented with joy cause I fell asleep
And awoke thinking of her

It’s a fair point. The difference is we have some very talented young players now coming through. Biss, White, Lamptey, Sanchez in particular. And it’s a fair question whether they would have broken through in the same way under Hughton (unlikely). That said, if Eduoard is really available for £35M, it would look a lot better if we sold one of those young players for that and brought him in...

This is easily the best Brighton squad ever.

It's way better than Hughton's team. But we may go down. For two reasons

1) In case anyone hadn't noticed, there are issues putting away chances
2) The overall standard of the division id going up. The £100m's you get every year wherever you finish means that, the 1st, 5th, 10th, 15h and 20th teams are better than they were in the past. Talent is flowing into the PL. Whether that continues, we'll see

I think it is the best squad we’ve had and also the best mananger.

I just wish we had the Glenn Murray of 5 years ago in the squad too and then our league position would look completely different.

Probably it would like something like our XG league position

Ah well

The squad is a lot better than the one we had under Hughton, we can see this from the fact we are far more competitive in most games, we just can't put the ball in the net. Our stats show we create the chances, we are one clinical striker away from pushing up the table. The problem is that every other team around us also wants one, they don't grow on trees and if they are too clinical they are soon snapped up by the bigger clubs or want that move to the bigger clubs (see Ings, Danny). Then you are back where you started, trying to find another one.
