Any player subbed for this reason should be banned from playing their next game or 7 days, whichever is longer... This would make good health logic, and keeps the play acting to a minimum.

I welcome this, but as others have suggested, teams will be already working out how they can use it to their advantage! I wasn't sure of the wording on the Club website "with the opposite team being able to use the equivalent number" - does this mean that if a team brings on a sub for concussion, the opposition can also make another substitution even if no player on their side has concussion? https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/1981164/premier-league-statement-on-concussion-substitutions

That's the way it reads to me.

This is how I read it. It’s obviously to mitigate gaining an extra sub advantage.

I think there are already safety rules around concussion in football that would prevent a player playing in the next match - my son wasn’t allowed to play amateur football for 2 weeks after concussion.

It's the first week of concussion subs.
Three subs still allowed as usual, but two additional subs can be used in the event of concussion.
If used, the opposition are also allowed to use an extra substitute(s).
